Considered by many to be director Alfred Hitchcock's greatest achievement comes this fully restored and remastered version of the haunting film classic. This special release also contains a restoration trailer and revealing documentary footage.

Set in San Francisco, James Stewart portrays an acrophobic detective hired to trail a friend's suicidal wife (Novak). After he successfully rescues her from a leap into the bay, he finds himself becoming obsessed with the beautifully troubled woman. One of cinema's most chillingly romantic endeavours: it's a fascinating myriad of haunting camera angles shot among some of San Francisco's renowned landmarks.

What begins as a standard Hitchcock mystery thriller is soon shockingly turned into an altogether different experience: a psychological insight into obsession and desire. Jimmy Stewart plays the increasingly confused and consumed detective 'Scotty' with his trademark Everyman charm, which makes his descend into frenzied obsession even more sinister. Kim Novak is the essential Hitchcock blond, falling foul of the whole sordid enterprise. Some good photography creating a San Fransisco of ambiguous serenity and a morose score by Bernard Hermann compliment a masterful work peering into the darker impulses of the human mind

Rightly reconsidered many years after it's original release for the cinematic masterpiece that it is, Hitchcock's dark and disturbing tale of obsession and murder still entrances anyone willing to delve into it's treasures.

Retired vertigo suffering police officer Scotty (James Stewart) is hired by an old friend to watch his wife Madeleine to uncover the reason for some recent odd behaviour in her. After saving her from almost drowning he becomes slowly more and more involved with the woman and her mystery. Ultimately unable to save her life he retreats into himself until he encounters a young woman who is Madeleine's double........and falls into an even deeper and more dangerous obsession of his own.

This two-disc special edition contains on Disc 1 the same 1996 original restoration documentary as the previous 'Vertigo' edition and notes, plus the restored film itself. Disc 2 contains a few newer extras including a feature on some of Hitchcock's notable collaborators including titles designer Saul Bass, costumer Edith Head and composer Bernard Hermann plus others. It also contains excerpts from Hitch's 1962 interviews with Francois Truffaut, some concept art etc which comes to about 90 mins all in.

All adding up to very solid collection of material to a film that can virtually be released on it's own and would still be an essential purchase!!
