Im only reviewing this movie because it was a small dvd release and most people have probably never heard of it, this is actually a really good thriller, it has a simple storyline but is done with style, its great to see kim basinger doing a lead role in a gory type thriller, she is still "totally hot!!" dont look over this movie as its worth a watch.

 Not what you'd expect

I was pleasantly surprised by this release - expecting like many other straight to DVD films, an uninspiring waste of time. I was definetly caught off guard here however.

The story is easy to follow, a troubled mother on Christmas Eve is caught in a frightening situation after she provokes a group of youths who took up two parking spaces at the mall. It sounds a bit thin, but in its simplicity, it works well to build tension from the initial confrontation. Things go terribly wrong, and Della (Basinger) finds herself in a life or death situation.

I've never really been a fan of Basinger, but she really impresses me in this. She effortlessly portrays a tormented and abused mother, and at points I couldn't look away. A surprisingly strong performance for this kind of movie.

I think anyone who likes films which put you in a life or death situation, and make you think what would you do - this is perfect. It is gripping throughout, and you will find yourself rooting for Della to prevail. Alot of this is shot at night, which only adds to the moody atmosphere and increases a sense of dread - helped again by Basinger's excellent performance. This is very impressive from this fresh director, and I believe if this film had been released at the cinema - it could have become an instant classic.

If you liked Eden Lake - then this is worth a watch

This film is fantastic!! Its very very similar to Eden Lake except somehow eden lake was a much better film. This film kept me on edge all the way through, but I have to admit on a couple of scenes I thought "yer, right...as if". It was a bit weird - but I think that was the result of the quality of Kim Basinger's acting, which was really good.

I wont ever leave the house without my phone fully charged after watching this and I need to buy a little red toolbox.

 True to the short story?..

This was a short story wriiten by Edward Bryant which appeared in a book called Splatterpunks. The movie grabbed my interest for this reason as I loved this story. Was the movie as good as the short story? I'd go as far to say it was true to the story but it left me feeling somewhat flat. Kim Basinger was excellent as always and the movie was ok but went a little silly.

This is a great night in movie. I love to see female heroes in movies and this one didn't disappoint. Its a very well made, tense thriller. You just have to watch it.
