The massive labyrinthine netherworld that is the Budapest subway system provides the stunning setting for KONTROLL, a high-style, high-speed romantic thriller in which the lives of assorted outcasts, lovers, and dreamers intersect and collide, and where one handsome young hero, one mysterious maiden, and one particularly nasty killer must conduct a race against time, trains, and destiny itself in their frantic pursuit of one another.

KONTROLL was awarded The 23rd Prix de la Jeunes presented in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival and was Hungary's most successful film in the domestic box office in 2003.

Kontroll is very good European movie making indeed. I am veteran of the Budapest metro and found this movie very good how it used the actually metro and no studios. Forget that is has subtitles just enjoy the movie and take a listen to one of the most bizarrely spoken languages in the world! I guarentee you that u will prob not understand one word in the entire movie. I love this movie and I hope u will too. Sziaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

A fantastic dark comedy set in the underground metro system

I have only given this film 4 stars as I don't feel the dvd is up to scratch.
The film its self is brillant and has an amazing atmosphere being set in the budapest metro system. The film has dark tones but is still very funny in places. The soundtrack to this movie also adds to the atmosphere and is by a band called "neo"

The dvd is in 4:3 and doesn't have true 5.1 surround sound which is a shame, on some of the really dark scenes you can see the artifacts/blockiness almost like a divx rip. This a real shame as I was lucky enough to see a cut of this film @ the Edinburgh film festival and it was simply stunning.

Highly recommend purchasing this unless anyone knows of a blueray release in the pipeline.

Could have done with a bit more control

The calling card movie for director Antal that took him to Hollywood is a stylishly shabby tale of the eccentrics peopling the Budapest metro system. It is actually rather reminiscent of the Luc Besson movie Subway albeit a little grubbier and has a raw energy to it that is quite appealing. But it is a ramshackle effort that ultimately does not really hang together that well.
