This is an astounding piece of work. Bronowski explores the connections between science, the arts and civilisation, across time. His range from when hunter-gatherers developed their farming skills, through the Renaissance, the development of modern science and the consequences of blinkered thought is astounding, coherent and demanding. Seeing him standing ankle deep in the pond filled with the ashes of his forefathers at Aushcwitz is a TV moment I will never forget - poignant and forceful. You would never get a documentary of this quality made today - challenging, wide ranging - it expected the viewer to bring some knowledge and interest to the material - and not a CGI dinosaur in sight - inspiring!
