André de Toth's remake of 'Mystery Of The Wax Museum' is one of the first and best 3-D (stereoscopic) feature films, an alternative technology (like Cinemascope, Cinerama) used by 1950s directors attempting to compete with the new threat of television.

Professor Jarrod (Vincent Price) is a devoted wax figure sculptor for his museum in 1910s NYC. When his financial partner, Sidney Wallace (Paul Cavanagh), demands more sensational exhibits to increase profits, Jarrod refuses. The vengeful Wallace torches the museum, leaving Jarrod for dead. Miraculously, Jarrod survives (though his hands and legs are rendered useless) and builds a new House of Wax with help from threatening deaf-mute sculptor, Igor (Charles Bronson). The museum's popular "Chamber of Horrors" showcases recent crimes like the murder of Wallace, a victim of a cloaked, disfigured killer along with his fiancée, Cathy (Carolyn Jones). When Cathy's friend Sue (Phyllis Kirk) visits the museum she makes a discovery that leads to the horrifying truth behind the House of Wax...

Forget the overloaded gore that you see nowadays. This is what it is really about. Good acting, using the world around for the scares and the atmospheric suspense. This is good cinema. The summary of this product says it all really but this film is so good, I am not going to spoil it for you.
Of course, if you have seen the 2005 House of Wax with Elisha Cuthbert then, you pretty much get the idea (hint hint) but if you are a lover of the classics, if you are someone who loved films such as the classic "Dead of Night" with Hugo the Dummy, then this is one item that should soon be on your checkout list because it is horror at its peak. Forget what you see in the modern world, this is what it really was back in the day and I still watch the classic horrors, and hammer horror films for the very reasons I have mentioned in this review. It is not over-the-top such as (for example) "Hostel Part II" it is genuine, suspenseful horror that tells you a good creepy story, without the use of lots of fake bloody effects and an onslaught of make-up. Vincent Price is the key to this film and his acting lifts this story of the pages of the book and the script.
A must-have for any lover of the good and decent generation of horror films, before it going over the top in the new century...

 Classic Horror

House of Wax is a brilliant classic horror film, and it starring Vincent Price just makes it that much better. Price plays the insane Professor excellently as he descends into madness after the loss of his "children" wax figures, especially his love Marie Antoinette.
The plot is much more believable than that of modern "horror" affairs which chase higher certificates with the most amount of blood, whereas a film such as House of Wax (1953) doesn't need a high certificate to be thrilling.

A bargain at £2.99, and definitely worth seeing at any age.

Well worth a watch for any classic horror fan!

Ok....now if you are into special effects and gripping soundtracks then this is not gonna be the one for you - go with the remake , which was itself what inspired me to buy the original and have a look at where they got the ideas from.

This doesn't follow exactly the same storyline as the remake , and the characters portrayed are indeed not the same aswell , however you can tell where all of the modern day ideas have come from. This one stars the godfather of olden day horror movies Vincent Price who plays the main character brilliantly , his voice and manerisms just send chills down your spine and it is not necessary for special effects to really make you believe in this character!

All in all if you love the remake and like me have watched the special features of that then this is well worth having a look at as you will see exactly where it all came together! A good watch even in this day and age!

 Great!
