Very very bad film. I pre-ordered this film then waited 12mths for it to be finally released after the release date was moved back several times. With the Hollywood actors involved I thought they had obviously read the script so I'd be in safe hands, oh how I was wrong!

The 1st 10mins are OK, the backstory is set which is when I thought the action would then begin but no, nothing. The machine on the front cover with the main character is not used until the last 1/2hr when he cobbles it together out of some other objects laying around during the final battle which is a real shame. I thought that as it was on the cover with him that it would feature quite regularly and for that reason, the chance to use high-octane action scenes involving it would be inevitable.

I told my friend about it and he felt that maybe I was being slightly harsh on it so of course I let him borrow it so that we could have a discussion about it afterwards. His only comment was "well it looked really good but it was a bit long wasn't it?". I didn't think it was too long overall, but the fact that it was so slow in terms of story-telling and action most definitely did not help.

I know it took 10yrs to make and it was the most expensive Japanese Animé to be produced but it really is bad! Good points to take away are the attention to detail for all the buildings, the machinery, the characters and even the background images. If that's all you look for in a film then this film's for you, but if you're after something that's going to keep you interested throughout with replay value then this is not for you.
