I thought nothing could top Pride and Prejudice 1995 for me until this wonderful adaptation came along. Wonderful casting and wonderful acting all round.
Moving, romantic and a good representation of the social history of the times. Richard Armitage was outstanding as Mr Thornton, the owner of Marlborough Mills. He was harsh yet caring and Mr Armitage was rather easy on the eyes in the role too.
The train scene kiss is a must see. I would rate it best costume drama kiss ever. So good I have two copies of it.

A fantastic film I love this film and when it was on sunday nights, I had to hide the controls and banish anyone that dared to talk during it..! It's beautifully acted out and just a heart wrenching love story..... Richard plays a great character and have continued to admire him in other programes since this one.. Watch it you wont be disappointed!

This is an outstanding adaptation of the well known classic novel by Elizabeth Gaskell and with the exception of the ending, stays true to the novel in everyway.
There are excellent performances from Daniella Denby-Ashe, Richard Armitage, Brendan Coyle and Sinead Cusack who, not only show us the many complexities of their own characters, but also how they influence the other characters in the plot. You may initially dislike a character, but after seeing their love and loyalty for their family or friends, you appreciate their vulnerable side and come to love the character inspite of their weaknesses.
Beautifully filmed in various locations, you really feel as though you have been transported back to Victorian Britain, the attention to detail is wonderful as is the soundtrack which accompanies the key scenes.
British drama at it's best

I love costume drama's and was not disappointed when I saw this (In fact I loved it so much, I bought the DVD as soon as I was able to).
The acting in it is fantastic from all of the cast.
A brilliant adaptation, I highly recommend it.
