1St of all, this is a complete steal at £14.99! I paid £30 for it and i still felt that i was getting a bargain. This dark series is packed full of weird and wonderful characthers from pauline to papa lazarou. I will say i don't think the jokes found within are for the faint of heart but if you are looking for a completely new and original experience then buy, buy, buy! You wont regret it!

Season 3, parts of the film and Christmas Special aside, this is amazing.
Purely pitch black and as sharp as you like, this show is a stunner, with outrageously executed performances.
The only people who wouldn't like this would be Brian Conely fans and those people out there who think Family Guy is better than The Simpsons. And I ask you; do these people really deserve the opinions that they so readily offer?

...which for most people is unfunny. I've attempted to watch this and I didn't laugh once, just a load of boring depressing sketches - a terrible dent for the image of British comedy.
If you haven't seen this before, dont.

This show is set around the fictional village of Roysten Vasey,a kind of sureal, out of time, vortex somewhere in yorkshire(imagine the Bermuda triangle meets Emerdale farm)and once you go there .....you,ll never leave.
This show brings to screen some of the most ridiculous, bizzare, unfathamably weird characters ever to grace our TV sets. Its right up my street. It ticks every box.Its funny, sureal, unique, edgey, twisted, cringy, everything I feel is required to bring together a complete comedy show.
If youre after a show you will understand quickly this is not for you.The rich plots and characterisation are built throughout the first two series(yet those keen will stay gripped)and certain punchlines\developments take a long time to come about,an aspect which is at the centre of the shows appeal.Youre never quite sure whats going on,or why the inhabitants of this crazy town are as unusual as they are,but if youve ever been to any part of rural England, you would see where the L,O,G get there inspiration. This is after all ,a country full of quacks.

There is no way of explaining the feeling you get when watching this incredible show for the first time. When compared to more recent sketch shows you realize how originality has been lost over the years. More recent sketch shows are simply a series of catchphrases designed to sell a novelty mug, this is where LoG excels. The most memorable character that you will be quoting weeks later only appears in two out of the eighteen episodes.
The most notable feature of The League of Gentlemen is their ability to craft thrilling story lines that run throughout each series; Edward and Tubbs' war against the new road, the mysterious nosebleeds and the accident in the middle of Royston Vasey.
The DVD itself is full of special features that almost double to total viewing time of the whole set. The commentaries are very entertaining and offer a glimpse into what make the League's insane minds tick.
Overall, this is an excellent purchase for any fan of classic British Comedy. The only downside is that you will feel wholly unsatisfied by more recent attempts at sketch shows.
'The League of Gentlemen' represents British comedy at its most original, twisted, unique best. Influenced by much classic horror (The Wicker Man, The Shining, The Exorcist, Don't Look Now) Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and, lest we forget, Jeremy Dyson emerge as some of the most talented comedy performers/writers/actors of recent years. Over the course of the three superb series and the quite fantastic Christmas Special (possibly one of the greatest Christmas Specials ever?) the sheer wealth of colourful, bizzarre characters will have you in stitches (Who DOESN'T love Papa Lazarou, eh?) If all British comedy was this good then the rest of the world would probably give up, 'The League..' is inspired - hilarious, original, unique, suprisingly poignant at times and quite without equal. With superb special features, including amazing commentaries on every episode this is timeless comedy that you will watch again and again...
