*** Spoiler warning ***
I bought FROGS for a low price, because I thought the DVD cover looked hilarious, and the tag line: "Today the pond, tomorrow the world" was to die for.
FROGS was announced as a horror comedy, but it takes itself all too serious to be anything near a comedy, and ends up being silly and boring. The story is... well... what story? Nature runs amok and kills a lot of people, because they've tried to kill nature. Snakes, lizards, crocodiles, leeches, spiders and frogs end up wiping out almost the entire cast (though the frogs never attack anyone, but just lurk in the shadows looking evil). Sam Elliott is awful as the nature photographer, who all too fast concludes "The nature is having revenge" (!!!) FROGS has, by some, been compared to Hitchcocks THE BIRDS, and the themes is also to compare. Thinking of nature and its creatures suddenly running amok is scary enough by itself, but here it never gets creepy or as scary or as nasty as Hitchcock's classic.
FROGS contains a few scenes, which are extremely nasty (when Iris is attacked by leeches, my underpants crept up my crack), but this film is entirely for people who like bad monster movies.
