I saw this film not too long ago.. I guess in everyone's case, this film really sucked! I was hoping for sometghing a bit better than 'House of the Dead'. But what did we get? Pure pappy show!
I couldn't believe Christian Slater, Tara Reid and Stephen Dorff got themselves into?
I think it was a big mistake for the three top Hollywood actors to play this utter rubbish!
The game is well more better than this crap!

I was interested in seeing if the film paralelled to the video game, and when I saw the film on advertised to be on sky I thought I would give it a watch....believe me I wish I hadn't!!!!

I stuck with it hoping that it would get better and actually make sense, I was let down...if anything it just gets worse!!!

From the off the opening dialogue gives no real insight to who/what/why the creatures exist or attack people, it skirts over the issue of human experimentation, and lacks a real plot and any logical story.

The fact that some 100 armed special forces troops all get wiped out in 5 minutes is bemusing when Slater manages to survive the film fighting these creatures with a pistol with unlimited ammo in an auto-reload clip.

And just when the film gets to the end point and they destroy the creatures underground they come back up to the surface to find everyone had disapperaed with no reason or explanation, and the film just ends.

So to summarise you have no story at the beggining of the film, a weak generalisation of the problem in the middle and a pointless, un expained or unimaginable ending....a minus star rating if anything!!!!

OMG!! I actually forced myself to watch this last night. I have heard nothing but bad reports about it and thought it couldn't be THAT bad as it had Christian Slatter in it! Well it is THAT bad and I can see why he hasn't had much work after. How the hell Uwe Bowl can release a directors cut too? This man has sites on the web devoted to people airing how angry they feel about his films.. and now I see why. When in the cutting room and they watched the film and saw glaring plot holes, terrible acting and dodgy effects they must have been either drunk or high or just plain stupid. I have not played the games but I am aware of them and the story. AVOID THIS just because it is a painfully bad film.

Absolutely horrendous in every way possible. It is one of the worst movies i have come accross in my life. I almost had a heart-attack watching it.

I don't know if it's fans of the videogames disappointed that it didn't adapt the games or others just not liking a videogame-based film, but Alone in the Dark gets bad reception.

I just saw it today, though, and thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable, original and creative film, and there's nothing setting it below any other decent Hollywood monster-thriller movies.

Definitely a thousand times better than the awful "House of the Dead".

Check it out.

Avoid this film like the plague! I paid 5 pounds for it and felt i was overcharged by 10. The story hooks you in at first but then fails to keep you interested and not to mention there are unexplained plot holes a plenty.

Customer rating: 1 out of 5 stars New Candidate for the worst film ever made...

This film has no redeeming features. None. Nothing. Nada. Niet. I really mean this. I love cheesy films. Sometimes even 'bad' films. I enjoyed Starship Troopers, I thought the League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen was good. Doom rocked. The production values of all of these pieces is vastly superior to Alone In The Dark.

According to the dictionary, a story is 'an account of incidents or events'. So technically the film has a story. Just as well for AOD the dictionary doesn't include words like, 'logical','consistent' or even 'comprehensible'.

The acting is bored - Cristian Slater is bored, Stephen Dorff is bored, Tara Reid is, well, bored, stupid and not really worth watching.

And the FX? I can hardly be bothered to use the word 'average'. Nothing to see here folks - move on.

Just find something else to watch - anything - a 5 minute ad break will contribute more to your life than this sorry mess.
