Witty, sparkling and bright adaptation of Philip Barry's hit Broadway play about the rich upper class becoming blinded to the simple joys of life. The story centers around socialite Tracy Lord (Hepburn) and husband C. K. Dexter Haven (Grant) whom she's thrown out of their Main Line mansion. Tracy is on the verge of marrying a wealthy stuffed shirt, much safer than Dex, whom starts trying to win Tracy's heart again. Meanwhile Mike Connor (Stewart), a tabloid reporter, also falls for Tracy while covering the nuptials for his magazine. Tracy must choose between the three men as she discovers that "safe" can mean "deadly dull" when it comes to husbands and lifestyles...
Under the direction of George Cukor, Hepburn and Grant star in the pinnacle of sophisticated romantic comedy that The American Film Institute voted as one of the Top 100 American films of all time. James Stewart, the third lead, won an Oscar as Best Actor, with the film earning six major Academy nominations including Best Director, Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and Supporting Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

this film brings together 3 of the greatest actors, cary grant, katherine hepburn and jimmy stewart. it is funny and sweet. perfect for a rainy sunday afternoon, put your pyjamas on, make some popcorn, curl up on the sofa and enjoy. oh and look out for jimmy stewart's drunk scene and see cary grant trying to keep a straight face.
the only down side to this film is it's a tad poor on the sound, you may have to whack your volume up. but bearing in mind it was made in 1940 it's not that bad
