One of Michael Caine's finest efforts and probably the best gangster film this country has produced. Caine is ruthless as Frank Carter in his search for his brother's killer. The film has a particularly memorable score which compliments the picture very well. The photography is also very effective and just shows how grim Newcastle was in the early 70's. Darker than dark..

What was with the 70's? Must have been the 60's drugs wearing off and the inevitable come down led to many exemplary pieces of cinema.
A superb tale of revenge and retribution, framed by the grey, streets of Geordie land. You can almost smell the ale and mustiness of the smoke-stained pub scenes.
Caine never made a better movie (although 'The Man Who Would Be King' comes close) and acts his blonde quiff off. Hard as granite and cool as ice - there is no hiding place when Jack is on the search.
Just remember - "You're a big man, but you're out of shape..."
I'm going to sit in the car and whistle "Rule Britannia".

fantastic!!!
firstly a million times better than the 2000 remake.
the film is fantastic, brilliant story and a brilliant location, tyneside, a lot has changed there now, but ig you knew the place even 10 years back you can imagine Carter roaming the streets.
classic quotes to be had, and in my opinion one of the best title sequences and music scores in a film to date.
the story is dark, secretive and violent, Carter is a man on a mission. this for the price it is now is certainly one to watch, especially for people who like British cinema. it captures time so well, the "Get Carter Car Park" is due for demolition and is standing there cold, a reminder of what once happened there.
