Soured by civilisation, Jeremiah Johnson (Robert Redford) sets out in the mid-1800's to be a mountain man, seeking solitude in a wilderness whose purity he never questioned. His first Rocky Mountain winter almost kills him. Starving and nearly frozen, he finds refuge with a wily old trapper (Will Geer) whose survival teaching includes going eyeball to eyeball with a grizzly.

This is a thoughtful, insightful movie.
Focusing on the life journey of an ordinary man who becomes awakened to a world he'd trying to forget by extraordinary events.
It's a moving, personal film that has a pace and a feel that draws out the spiritual nature of its content.
There are moments of moving truth in here.
One of those movies that has a 'real' feel of the period.
99% of people who see it either love it or hate it.
This is one to sit back and melt in to.
Buy it. See it.

a very sincere movie that shows a great passion for the real wild west and what it took to live and stay alive out there. it also shows a great respect for the pioneers, the men who went into formerly unknown territory not knowing what they would encounter, adventures as well as dangers.
robert redford is simply outstanding in his acting, calm and controlled, very convincing.
'honest' would be the word to use describing this movie with only one word.
no doubt a five star rating and highly recommendable for everyone who loves western movies: thisone is not to be missed!

" Not quite in the league of his other films such as Butch Cassidy and The Sting but still a pleasure!"

You are joking right?

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid - Fantastic.

The Sting - Very good

Jeremiah - By far the best

 Jerimmiah Johnson

God I love this film. 4 Stars because its not for everyone and I want to be honest about that. To my mind, this is Robert Redford at his best. The film is almost spiritual in its drive and it apeals to the individualist on many levels.

My favourate part is where he discovers the family living in his house and it is brought home to him (Jerimmiah) just how far he has gone.

Highly reccomended. Outstanding in broad content. A cut above the usual special effects stuff. Enjoy it like a fine old wine.
