New York based quintet Dream Theater, born at Boston's Berklee School of Music in 1985 and starting out under the moniker Majesty, have released nine albums over the course of its career, the most recent being their UK Top 30 release Systematic Chaos. Few bands inspire the type of fanaticism that Dream Theater does. The band-drummer Mike Portnoy, guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, vocalist James LaBrie and keyboardist Jordan Rudess-have a unique relationship with their fans, constantly interacting with them via the web in addition to continuously providing exclusive content to their legion of diehards.

Chaos In Motion 2007/2008, documents their "Chaos In Motion" world tour, which kicked off June 3, 2007 at the Monsters of Rock Festival in Milan, Italy and concluded almost a year to the day later on June 4, 2008 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Chaos In Motion 2007/2008 features performances captured throughout the entirety of the tour, unlike their last three DVDs, Metropolis 2000: Live Scenes From New York, Live at Budokan and Score, all of which focused on a single concert event.

Drummer and DVD creative director Mike Portnoy plumed his personal archives for footage in order to provide fans with the ultimate tour souvenir. He assembled over three hours of complete live performances, taking footage from shows in Rotterdam, Buenos Aires, Toronto, Boston, Bangkok and Vancouver. The tracks were mixed and effectively brought to life by Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Rush). The second disc is packed with bonus material, including promo videos, live screen projection films, a photo gallery and a 90-minute documentary that'll make you feel like you're riding in the passenger's seat of the band's tour bus, as it takes you on the road and behind the scenes with the band and crew. It's like a virtual backstage pass that grants fans further unprecedented access.

The performances on this dvd suck. It pains me to say but, but labrie just can't keep up and as other reviewers have mentioned, his poor performance ruins the songs for me. I have always loved labrie and thought he fit dream theater perfectly, and it's such a shame but i don't think he can handle it anymore. It wouldn't surprise me if he left the band either of his own accord or being asked to leave at some point in the near future unless the singing improves.

I understand the human voice is delicate and a lot harder to maintain than the skill of playing an instrument i really do, and i'd be absolutely devastated if the lineup of dt changed, but it is painful to watch and listen to. Also, most of the songs seem quite drastically slowed down, what's with that?

I wouldn't have minded the style of shooting they've chosen if the songs were performed well but this is dream theater at a moment i didn't think they'd sink to, i've seen them 5 times and never heard them as bad as this.

Mainly i'm just surprised and disappointed the bad performances were allowed on the dvd to be permanently commemorated, with mike being such a perfectionist. Dream theater are the most incredible band in the world, they can do so much better than this.

Sooo disappointed.

 Flawed but still great

I think the best way to describe this latest dvd from DT is "different", rather than go for the big single show production of their previous dvds they capture the entire tour in all its glory complete with raw footage and sound with James Labries live vocals often not reaching the highs of studio albums. It contains a great mixture of old and new material in its 3 hour running time plus over another 2 hours of bonus interviews promo vids and a documentry on disc 2.

 Dream Theater, better than ever!

This is brilliant DVD. It really captures the live experience that the band put on. It's like no other! I cannot wait to see these guys live again. Having this DVD makes the wait just about sufferable! xD

This DVD is a wonderful medley of concert footage from their last world tour, brought together to form an epic musical masterpiece for the fans. At around 3 hours in length, it leaves us feeling the full effect of the DT experience. If you've seen them in concert this will make you re-live the experience with fond memories. If you're a DT virgin the performance will leave you awestruck and eager to catch them the next time they swing by.

Apart from the live show, this DVD has extensive on the road and interview footage giving the hardened fan that little bit extra for their money.

 Another Dream Theater masterpiece!!

Well, what can I say about this latest release from prog rock GODS, Dream Theater???? I had the privilage of seeing this tour on the european leg shortly before xmas 2007 and was blown away by a setlist of great new classics such as Constant Motion, and The dark eternal night!!! Then for a setlist containing music from the whole of their 22 year history. The energy displayed by this band of 40 sumthings is displayed in full and puts to shame many of the newer more contemporary artists. This is firstly a DVD for diehards like myself but also for those wishing to witness the awesome musical talent on show! LaBrie,Myung,Petrucci,Rudess and Portnoy are the prog rock gods.......5 star rating DVD!!!!!!!
