When nursery teacher Jenny escapes to the country for a relaxing weekend away with her boyfriend, she is unaware of a romantic surprise he has in store. The location is perfect. A lake enclosed by woodlands, seemingly deserted. The scene is set for a picturesque proposal. But before the happy couple can enjoy the retreat, their peace is shattered by a gang of violent youths.

What begins is a shocking and unrelenting game of cat and mouse, as Jenny is forced to fight back against her aggressors.

I had this film recommended by a work colleague, I'm so glad I took his advice and watched it, as it is one of the most unrelenting, and disturbing Brittish thrillers since The Descent.
It may be low budget, but the none gloss effect of the film makes it all the more savage. This is what the Hostel films and the recent batch of Saw sequels should have been, this is survial horror to the extream. If you liked the likes of the recent remakes of The Last house On The Left (2009) and The Hills Have Eyes(2006) then you will love this, as it really does get under your skin, and the stomach punch ending is hard to shake off.
Of course it's not to everyones taste, and I would be wrong to say it's an enjoyable bit of viewing, but it's a long time since I have watched a no budget thriller, that has left my finger nails knawed down to the knuckle, and feeling numb as the final credits roll.
This is a true statement that shows you don't need a mega budget, and big names to make a brilliant little thriller. Eden Lake is Shocking and brilliant in equal measure!

A well made film with a good storyline and good cast. Its one of the best films in this genre i have seen. Well worth watching.

 Disappointing and slightly annoying

i can somewhat see why people may like this film but if you have seen the french film 'Them' which is based on a true story then this film is not anywhere near that class. I just think the characters make stupid decisions in this film which really annoyed me and my girlfriend, i can not really say because i do not want to ruin the film , but in one instance the lady decides to stay in one place all night in the forest with a mobile and does not decide to run or even phone the police. This does not make sense at all. Anyway, its a an average film, some good/bad parts. Worth a watch maybe.

So tense its unbearable to watch...

This is one of them films you will either, not particulary like it, but endure it or hate it so bad that the first drop of blood you see you will turn it off. This is a great british film conveying how we see the YOB's of today on the street corners with nothing else to do but terrorise everyone in sight and with the wrong up bringing could your child turn out to be one of these street corner hooligans who cross the line, way over the line.
Two brits decide to have the weekend away at Eden Lake where Jenny's boyfriend plans to have a romantic getaway for just the two of them but are interuppted by the local kids.
As their holiday begins to progressivly evolve into a nightmare the two must run for their lives when the kids begin to spiral out of control and hunt the two down. The film is very uncomfortable all the way through and violent very violent and you will be tempted to turn off. Jack O'connell is amazing as the lunatic group leader, he is very unsettling. The film races towards its end with a shocking climax further exemplifying the influence that parents have over there children and why they turn out to be the way they are. Tense, gritty and sickening in parts, this is a must see movie for some but not for all.
