I was a little worried as i'm a blackandwhitefilmophobe but, this fim is marvelous.
Compared to films like Serpico, Taxi Driver, The Warriors that show New York on the 1970's as a cess pit this shows 70's New York through Woody Allen's eyes and what a place it is.
5 Stars all the way.
It was his masterpiece. And it always would be.

I'd never watched a Woody Allen film before I decided to invest in "Manhattan", having heard it was excellent, thought-provoking and extremely well-written. Boy, I didn't hear wrong. This is a masterpiece, for sure.
The movie concerns itself with the inhabitants of Manhattan, New York, as they deal with the inner-depths of human emotion and the complications of relationships - it's beautifully shot in black-in-white and it truly is amazing when it comes to the realism of characters and the lengths it goes to establish a "genuine" narrative.
I wasn't expecting much, to be honest, but I got so much more than I expected. I recommend "Manhattan" completely, having become an avid fan of Woody Allen cinema (I recently watched "Annie Hall", too, another spectacular film from Allen's collection) and I proudly sight it both as some of my favourite films.
It has heart, humour, memorable scenes, fabulous music (check out that opening sequence!) and a wonderful sense of direction. Allen hates this movie, apparently - I am bewildered as to why he could hate such an amazing piece of work.
Get it. You won't be disappointed, I promise.
Beautiful

A masterpiece by Woody Allen which shows his love for NYC. Shot in b&w which amazingly compliments the film, it is a marvellous study of New York. One of Allen's best.
