This is the second series of Robin Hood and if u liked the first then this will blow your mind. A must have for any Robin Hood fan. Well worth buying.
In my opinion out of the vast majority of the Robin Hoods out there this is by far the best. It is witty enjoyable and fast paced. It is certainly suitable for all ages. And when aired on TV this reflected in the 7pm airing time.
The casting is just right Robin is supposed to be young he has just returned from the crusades Jonas Armstrong is perfectly suited. Marian (Lucy Griffiths) is the model woman she stands up for what she thinks is right and isn't afraid to put herself in the line of fire so to speak.
The sheriff is suitably horrid and Robin is perfect as the young charming and cheeky rebel. As most BBC shows are good you expect this to be too and you arent disappointed.
Tuck was brilliant and a great diversion from the usual fat drunkard he is usually represented as. But the one downfall is that he was so much like Djaq in the cleverness and chemistry department that is felt like the only reason they'd made him intelligent beyond his time was to fill the gap she left.
My favourite character being Will. I just think he was cast extremely well and he is such a great actor. But that is my personal opinion. There is so many other characters to review.
But you really need to watch this yourself. To experience the brilliance of the whole thing!!
The BBC have tried to give the classic tale of Robin Hood a modern touch with this new dramatisation. All 3 series of this were enjoyable as each other. After each episode it left me wanting more and more. In which I gave in by watching another episode. The Cliff hangers are certainly in the right place and im pretty sure you will feel the same way as I.
The storyline it self as somewhat wondered from the path as the normal story of the legend of Robin Hood but still keeps in character with elements of the normal Robin hood. And certainly the elements that we all know and love. And even though if you find you are disappointed. And somewhat annoyed that it hasnt followed the traditional story. Dont be annoyed!! This storyline is superb. Well thought out and thoroughly enjoyable. It gives a complete new perspective.. A perspective that is just excellent gripping and honourable of the Robin Hood name.
I recommend this profoundly!! 5/5!!!
Following the hit and miss first series of the modern retelling of Robin Hood, the show goes through some clear changes as the writers, producers and actors pull out all the stops to make this series bigger and better than the first attempt, and it is. Within these thirteen episodes we get more character development than within the first series as a whole, especially within episode twelve - 'A Good Day To Die' which is one of the series best episodes overall as it delves into all the characters pasts while not deferring the plot of the show.
The plot also moves away from the robs from the rich and gives to the poor strand as well as the capture and release plot, although at times these do shine through. Instead we get a brilliant sub-plot of The Sheriff (the brilliantly funny Keith Allen) and Guy of Gisborne (Spook's Richard Armitage) who are out to kill the king with a secret army, this plot then comes to a head in a brilliant series finale set in the Holy Land (actually; probably filmed in Dubai)where we meet the King himself. The other sub-plots are extended and are very good indeed. We have Marian's (The beautiful and talented Lucy Griffith's) exposure as the Night Watchman and her relationship with Robin is further explored as well as one of Robin's gang turning traitor - but who?
As a result of more tight planning and some fantastic writing series two of Robin Hood is miles better than series one and although some modern language or plot strands do present themselves they are not as in your face as they were in the first series. Series two also has some brilliant episode highlights including Ducking And Diving, For England, Get Carter, Lardner's Ring, Treasure Of A Nation and the two-part finale; the aforementioned A Good Day To Die and We Are Robin Hood! My favourite episode of this series though by far has to be Walkabout just for Keith Allan's brilliant portrayal of the Sheriff Of Nottingham - a portrayal of the man you actually love and hate at the same time. While the finale, was not to everyone's liking and it did see one of the main characters killed off and two others leave, it was in my opinion very good and allowed the writers (although the head writer from series one and two left after the wrote this series finale) to change the traditional tale slightly for a modern day audience, which they did in the slightly better series three. On the whole; series two is much better than series one and is certainly worth a look for a modern take on the legend, however at times it does come across as too modern which can be a problem.
