Three-time Oscar®-nominee Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption) reunites with horror-master Stephen King to write and direct this chilling adaptation of the author's original short story, The Mist.

Following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist. Local rumors point to an experiment called the 'The Arrowhead Project' conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapor are secondary to the group's overall chances for survival.

 Horror with balls.

I can say quite confidently that The Mist is one of the finest horror films I have seen in a long, long time. The monster moments are horrific and suitable for the genre and the character moments are good enough for any drama. The origin of the mist itself is kept as ambiguous as possible which keeps the audience uncomfortably mystified, just like the townspeople. And with an ending that is astonishing in it's willingness not to give the audience any sense of comfort in closure, Darabont's film is as close to the perfect horror film as I've seen any film come. It's almost impossible to lavish enough praise on The Mist. It's surprising how good it is. But when Stephen King's stories are adapted well, they make for excellent viewing. The Mist is up with The Sawshank Redemption and Kubrick's adaptation of The Shining as the best of King's stories on screen. The Mist is an astoundingly well made movie. And one for the best of '08 list.

 Shocked!

As a life long Stephen King fan I was rather excited when this film was released. It was previously a short story published in his book 'Skeleton Crew'.

The film pretty much stayed true to the story. Basically the residents of a small Maine town (isn't it always Maine lol) are trapped in a supermarket by a strange mist that appears the morning after a freak storm. The mist descends quickly, devouring people as it rolls in.

Tension mounts as one by one the people trapped in the supermarket realise that whatevers in the mist isnt very nice. Add to that feuding neighbours, drunken men, some very worried soldiers and Mrs Carmody a bible thumping nutjob predicting that this is Armageddon. The trapped people gradually divide into 2 groups, those wanting to escape, and those following Mrs Carmody!

This film was voted as having the worst ending ever. I was expecting the same as the book, so what a shock I got when the ending began!! Myself and my sons sat in utter shock! Buy this, its a bargain. You wont be disappointed (although you may be stunned into silence!)

 The Mist-classic horror film

I watched this film yesterday and was so glad I ignored comments saying that it wasn't very good. If you like horror with scantily clad girls and lots of gore and super heavy weapons then this is not for you. If however you like classic horror in the Lovecraft vein then the cthulhu like style of this film will appeal to you. It builds up the tension like a good horror should- you start getting nervous about whats in the mist and the ending which I wont spoil is spot on . The best Stephen King 'pure' horror adaptation i have seen.

 Most powerful movie in years...

Stephen King and Frank Darabont are quite a pairing they alawys seem to deliver on the movie adaptions and this is no exception.

The Mist may be a horror movie but its also about the human race and how they cope in horrific situations and what some people are willing to do in order to survive, or what they beleive they have to do. Terrorism and religion are touched upon in the movie, the terrorism covertly in the midst of us as it strangly reflects on how people cope with some of the tradgedies our world goes through today.

There are some great characters in this and some utterly annoying ones that you just want to kill yourself, Thomas Jane is excellent as the lead hero trying to portect everyone inside from the outside while been tested against a woman slowly but surly making people beleive human sacrifice is in order to keep the monsters at bay away from the mall they are cornered in.

The events of the film all lead to the shocking climax that is one of the most powerful and utterly depressing ending in movie history that just goes to show that not everyone gets a happy ending. Its a great film that will haunt you and embed itself in your mind for a good while, shocking but amazing film making.

 "..Unique Horror gem.."

This movie is awesome!! at this price you CANNOT go wrong! probably one of the best steven king stories to ever get made into a film, very good story, keeps you interested and freaked out throughout wondering what a earth is going on. and when you get to the end you will be left feeling very sorry for several of the characters as it has quite an impact. lots of good features to watch too, a must buy.
