Movie plays out like an old fashioned western, cop has to clean up the town type thing, but set in the 90's. Brilliant cast, Deniro is pretty good in his supporting role as is Ray Liotta, but this is Stallone's movie all the way, he nails every scene he is in. Sad, Pathetic, Out of his Depth, Embarrassed, Heroic, he does it all. People hve won major awards for a lot lot less. People forget that he ACTED in the first ROCKY movie and has always managed to deliver emotional scenes even in his Action movies.
Career wise the movie dind't work for him, as it took him off the radar until he forced himself back with Rocky 6 and Rambo 4. Would love to see what someone like Tarantino could do with Sly

the acting in this movie is superb and although a little slow at times its still very good. a must see.

a classic and very subtle good cop-bad cop(s) movie about an honest cop who doesn't really fit in with the colleagues who's little community he protects. his high moral standards ultimately make him the worst enemy of those who mock him and his status.
among strong performances of ray liotta, robert de niro and harvey keitel the peformance of sylvester stallone really stands out: he's the star of this movie in a very unlikely role for him. a very nice surprise that adds to the quality of this (indeed) western-like movie.
highly recommendable, even if you're no fan of stallone.

This really is a forgotten classic. It's a great pity as it shows how good Stallone can act when in the correct role. Not only is he the star of the film he stands is own, with acting heavy weights like Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel and Ray Liotta. This film delves into the murky world of police corruption in a tiny part of New York nick named Cop Land. Stallone plays a partly deaf over weight cop who admires the big city cop's who live there, but cannot become one due to his deafness. That is until he finds a web of corruption and lies, and it's time to stand his ground and put a end to it all. This film runs like a western with it's high noon style shoot-out at the end. The film is well written and superbly directed. But a word of warning for those who see Stallone's name as top billing and think they are going to get a all out action film, will come away very disappointed. This film is a slow burning drama, where the tension builds and simmer through out the film, until it boils over into the blood shed of the final fifteen minutes. If you want excellently written,acted and directed thriller than this is the one to buy.
A Forgotten Classic!

This is another of my favourite movies.It is actually a modern remake of one of the older western films.Stallone proves he can act in this film and within the rest of the cast are some huge names in acting and not one dissapoints.The scene were Stallone invites the woman he loves into his house even though she is married to somebody else,Springsteen playing in the background ,truly awesome ,a fantastic scene.I have to give this film five stars.

Brilliant film, one of my favorites. Great acting and story line. Get it for your collection.
