Courage Under Fire (Dir. Edward Zwick, 1996): Featuring outstanding performances and riveting action-packed battle scenes, this is a moving and unforgettable film.
Enemy At The Gates (Dir. Jean-Jacques Annaud, 2001): It's 1942 and the German and Russian armies are embroiled in one of the most momentous battles of WWII, the battle of Stalingrad. Starriing Jude Law, Joseph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz.
Von Ryan's Express (Dir. Mark Robson, 1965): As the Allies begin to push the Nazis back toward Germany, U.S. combat pilot Col. Joseph Ryan (Sinatra) is shot down and placed in a prison camp. Initially, he's more concerned with surviving than escaping, earning him the insulting nickname, "Von Ryan." But in time, Ryan takes over from the commanding British officer (Trevor Howard) and masterminds a daredevil race for freedom that involves commandeering a train and getting it across Italy to Switzerland with the Nazis in hot pursuit. Then it's all blazing action, hair-raising chases and spectacular Italian scenery in this Oscar-nominated adventure that runs full speed until the nail-biting finale!
The Longest Day (Dir. Ken Annakin and Andrew Marton, 1962): The Allied invasion of France marked the beginning of the end of the Nazi domination over Europe. Winner of two Oscar's The Longest Day ranks as one of Hollywood's greatest war films.
The Thin Red Line (Dir. Terrence Malick, 1998): A powerful front line cast - George Clooney, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte and Woody Harrelson - explodes into action in the hauntingly realistic view of military and moral chaos in the Pacific during WWII.
Tigerland (Dir. Joel Schumacher, 2000): Just released from base camp, charismatic Rolan (Colin Farrell) goes to Tigerland, where his leadership and character bring his men together, triggering extraordinary consequences.
Patton - Lust For Glory (Dir. Franklin J. Schaffner, 1969): A critically acclaimed film that won eight Oscar's in 1970, Patton is a riveting portrait of one of the 20th centuries military geniuses.
Tora! Tora! Tora! (Dir. Richard Fleischer, 1970): Tora!Tora!Tora! is the Japanese signal to attack - this movie meticulously recreates the attack on Pearl Harbour and the events leading up to it.

All the films except 12 o'clock high are very entertaining. Especially good are Courage under Fire , Behind Enemy Lines, and Enemy at the Gates. These latter two are based on real events so maybe come across as more realistic than the usual type of macho gung ho crap. 12 o'clock High is a WW2 bomber epic and is quite dull compared to the others also in black and white which dates it !!
