  Nothing New But It Works

| | See all stuartfear's reviews (766)

It's a true story, but the setting and surrounding all seems familiar. High School filled with knuckle heads, kids who don't want to study and don't care about their future. They play basketball but their team is in shambles. Coach Ken Carter steps in things begin to change. All the usual storylines are there, it's nothing new but it all works. The story is well written, it keeps you entertained, gives you a few laughs and gives you a sense of hope. Samuel L.Jackson plays his typical role but it's perfect in this movie, he comes across as a slave driver but a man to respect. It's not an oscar worthy movie but it certainly entertains.   BRILLIANT BASKETBALL BASED TRUE STORY

| | See all PATCHES1989's reviews (518)

Samuel L Jackson is one of my favourite actors but never seems to pick enough good roles but this one was perfect for him. He stars as Coach Carter who tries to transform a bunch of wild kids who get into trouble with the law into respectable athletes who are respected by society. Kinda like Denzel Washington's "Remember the Titans" and Sam is the perfect man for the role as he spreads his loveable charisma all over the screen. Enjoy

  Pretty cool...

I am a huge basketball/samuel l. Jackson fan, and this film is just great, it really full of emotion, and humour! And the acting is very believable, it does drag a bit, i mean 2 hrs and 10 mins is a lot of time, but its and enjoyable 2 hrs and 10 mins, just watch it and find out, i mean it's cheap too so you got nothing to lose...

I don't think it matters if you're into basketball to enjoy this film. First off, It's got a great cast - Samuel L. Jackson and Rick Gonzalez definately shine through as the excellent performers they are. Coach Carter has everything a film should, a great soundtrack, a gripping story line, good looking people and some memorable quotes and funny moments. Most importantly the films gives off a message, whether you've been in that situation or not it's very thought provoking. You need to watch this film!! Even my 51 year old Mum loved it!!

  Inspiring

The true to life story of Coach Carter, who defiantly believed that the students at his high school were student athletes- 'first students, then have the privilege of being a basketball athlete'- proves to be the essence of his philosophy and his method in teaching and helping these youths who could be otherwise on the streets and in crime. A brilliant tale of belief, fighting for what is right and of course, basketball, Coach Carter and his team will tell you an initially gritty and ending in a heartwarming story.
