  Great Action/Comedy

| | See all DavidWellens's reviews (8)

Shanghai Noon, and its sequel, Shanghai Knights, are two of Chan's highlights since his move to American action film/slapstick comedies.
Stunts are aplenty, and fans of Jackie Chan's wild stunts and comical fight scenes will definitely have their fill!

Lured to America under false pretenses, Princess Pei-Pei soon finds herself the victim of a kidnapping. Having received a ransom note, her father, Emperor of the Forbidden City, sends his three best men to deliver the ransom. Royal guard Chon Wang, who previously witnessed the Princess leave, blames himself, and is granted permission by his uncle, the Emperor, to accompany his three fellow guards on the journey.

Soon after, local outlaw Roy O'Bannon bumps into Chon, having been betrayed by his former gang, and left to die in the desert.
Chon reluctantly agrees to take Roy with him on his journey, not knowing Roy is in it for the money.

The dynamic duo come across several dangers upon their journey, including wild indians, a powerhungry Federal Marshal, and a horse that doesn't quite act like one. It's quite a ball.

Recommended viewing: Shanghai Knights, Rush Hour 1, 2 and 3.

  OTHER LANGUAGES AND SUBTITLES

Besides that I love this kind of comedy, I am more than satisfied with this DVD. I purchased it halfheartedly thinking my friend would not be able to understand most of it because he only speaks french. However, this DVD which I ordered here comes with LANGUAGES and SUBTITLES other than English:

AUDIO:

Francais
Espanol
Nederlands

SUBTITLES:

Espanol
Francais
Ceske
Nederlands
Hrvatsky

The bonus and featurettes seem to all be available with subtitles. I didn't have time to go through all of them but whatever I tested did come up with french subtitles

However I was not pleasantly surprised with the sequal (shanghai knights), it's pretty much true to its presentation on the website. That is fine too. I was only happier with the extra language options.

This film is a prime example of a fun movie starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson you get great on screen chemistry just like Chan and Tucker had in "Rush Hour". The pair deliver some great action packed scenes but even more laughs as they go in search of the kidnapped Chinese princess played by Lucy Liu. Not one to be taken too seriously just one to be entertained by the quality that the two leads bring to the screen. Enjoy

  GREAT FUN

| | See all OBSESSEDWITHFILMS's reviews (416)

I thought this movie was quite simply good fun to watch.
Some good comedy performances from the always superb Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan never fails to deliver laughs for me.
The story is quite simple a Chinese princess is kidnapped and taken to America Jackie heads to America to rescue her and ends up teaming up with outlaw Wilson and the pair team up to rescue the princess.
There are some great laugh out loud moments in here and of course some great slapstick fight scenes courtesy of the great Jacke Chan.
If you liked Rush Hour then you will love this one its quite simply a nice and simple comedy film that makes you chuckle.

Best film of 2000 by a long way.
They could not have casted this film any better.
This is a funny mix of cultures and pretty much everything works perfectly.
A couple of minor things that pulled it down from a five to a four.
In places you do drift off slightly but other parts of the film everybody loves.
And this film is perfect for everybody.

  Pointless and boring

Not a very interesting film, boring story line and its just not funny. The only thing that saves this from being a 1 star is Jackie Chan doing his stuff.
