second only to the fantastic shawshank redemption in my opinion as the greatest movie of all.a giant of a man has magical powers and is wrongly imprisoned,a movie which has it all, twists and turns as well as very sad moments towards the end but wow what an absolute classic.add it to your collection.

Tom Hanks is a prison warden working on death row ,they call it the green mile and like to keep the inmates in a calm environment leading up to their turn in the chair ,their morals are put to test with the arrival of one particular inmate

Stephen King must have had more movie adaptations of his books made into movies than just about any other modern day author. Some of these have been pretty indifferent but some have been classics and this is one of the latter. Its a great story thats well acted and makes you care about what happens to the characters and you can't ask much more of a movie than that.

  King and Darabont Deliver Again

As with the fantastic Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile is based on a Stephen King story and directed by Frank Darabont and I can give no higher praise than to say it is just as good.

The film centres on a stretch of death row known as The Green Mile in which a giant of a man known as John Coffey, accused of murdering two young girls, has been imprisoned. King is widely known for his horror books but, while there are supernatural elements to this story, as with The Shawshank Redemption this film is all about relationships between people in difficult circumstances.

The Green Mile may be three hours long but every minute of that is used to develop the characters and story so that by the end we really do care what happens to them. Those that dismiss Kings work as chart filler may be pleasantly surprised by what they find in this movie.
