I first saw 'Escape From ....' at the pictures when I was 9 with my Mum & Younger sister, in the six weeks school holidays during the glorious summer of 1971 ( it least it seemed glorious to me !! ) So I guess you could say that I have a soft spot for this one. It was my first Ape adventure, as the previous entry that I also remember wanting to see, 'Beneath The ....' was a AA ( remember them ? ) & was therefore, way out of bounds for me. 'Escape From ....' started my mania for the Ape saga ( during the early 70's in Britain it really took off as a craze for a while !! ) & so onto Television for the short lived TV series of the same name. And then suddenly, it was all over .... Merchandised to death !! would be the correct term I guess. Anyway the whole Ape Saga is I think, a matter of personal taste , you either enjoy it, or you think that it's a load of old Tosh !! .... I happen to like this one, though I think the standard tends to vary in quality over the various other entries. Briefly .... in this one some of the clever chimps find a reverse time warp (or something like that !! ) in their chimp chariot & end up in sunny California a la 1971. It was I think aimed a little bit more towards the younger set and is therefore not so Adult as the other flics - ie : Apes 1+2, in terms of brutality (although it has it's moments) The Movie holds nice memories for me ( so I was happy to buy it on DVD ) and I still like to watch it, therefore I gave it 4 stars and could recommend it to not only 'Planet of the Apes' fans but others too with a taste for fantasy.
