Gotham City faces two monstrous criminal menaces: the bizarre, sinister Penguin (Danny DeVito) and the slinky, mysterious Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). Can Batman (Michael Keaton) battle two formidable foes at once? Like the Academy Award winning 1989 original, Batman Returns is directed by movie-making wizard Tim Burton. And like the first blockbuster, it's a dazzling adventure that leaves you breathless.

This is indeed one of Tim Burton's finest moments in cinema history, an absolutly fantastic movie with an awesome cast and a smart comic book story set in the dark and gothic world of batman. Catwoman is played so well by Michelle Pfeiffer who is also a massive sex symbol in this film. You couldn't get a more well orchestrated and perfect comic book film if you tried, (until Dark knight came out) plus there are so many awesome special features too, its worth every penny, be sure to get the original batman too as it is just as perfect.

 A worthy sequel

While many sequels struggle to beat the popularity of the original, Tim Burton's Batman Returns managed not only to become a fantastic Batmovie, but an amazing movie full stop.

With Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne/Batman already established in 1989's Batman, he comfortably returns to take on various foes. Firstly, the recurring terrorist circus mob with clowns apparently in tribute to the Joker, secondly the freakish Penguin (played fantastically by Danny DeVito) who seems to be hiding his intentions, thirdly Max Schrek (Christopher Walken, on usual great form) whose manipulative ways play all parties, and finally Selina Kyle/Catwoman (iconically played by Michelle Pfeiffer) who seems hellbent on hurting everyone who wronged her whilst struggling with her inner demons.

The characters are all fully explored and deep, and the winter setting complete with haunting Danny Elfman score make the movie simply rich with fantasy and emotion.

Some fans regard Returns as the last great Batmovie before Christopher Nolan boosted life back into the series with Batman Begins, and some still believe Returns has yet to be overtaken as favourite. If you want to see the best villains, the best performances, the sleekest vehicles and the greatest portrayal of a feminist in film, the Batman Returns is for you.

 Darkest 'Batman' to date.

Christopher Nolans' 'The Dark Knight' is dark but it is almost like a rainbow compared to this gothic looking 1992 classic 'Batman' movie by Tim Burton. Michael Keaton returns as 'Batman/Bruce Wayne' however this time he faces new enemies in 'The Penguin' (Danny Devito) and 'Catwoman'(Michelle Pheiffer). Both are frightening and Pheiffer is as sexy as you can get in PVC! Outstanding film

THE BAT, THE CAT AND THE PENGUIN.

This sequel to the 1989 movie is in my humble opinion a better film than the first. Again directed by Burton, the film is a perfect example of style over substance, as the plot like his 1989 movie is a total mess. But this film is more to do with mood and characters than anything else, and this is where thie film really counts. Batman Returns is more of a gothic fairytail than anything else.
De vito as the Penguin is superb under his makeup and fat suit, Keaton again wears the cape well, but the real star of the film is Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, she oozes sex appeal, and leaves the jaw on the floor with her beauty.
The snow bound winter setting of Gotham is also Beautiful, and really give the feel of a black and white comic book.
Don't watch this film if you think you are going to see a film with a propper story structure, but watch this film to see the wizardly gothic urban fairytale by Tim Burton.
