Catherine Cookson was born Catherine McMullen in 1906. Her life began in poverty and she grew up believing her real mother was her sister. In a life that could have been taken from any of her own novels, Catherine aspired to achieve more than many of her time.

From poverty to wealth she left the sadness behind to start a new life in Hastings where she was to meet her husband Tom Cookson. As a form of therapy, Catherine began to write and never stopped and became one of the world's best selling authors.

cathrine wrote loads of lovely stories ,i have not seen all of the adaptations, however the ones i have seen are very well executed and a joy to watch, they don,t seem to make drama,s like this these days. Anyone who likes victorian history or an insight on victorian and edwardian life buy these, they are awesome

 A bargain!

With the exception of the Mallen Streak series, which is really dated and a tad wooden, all of these films are extreemly watchable and enjoyable. Nanna's and Mum's across the nation will be blubbing away for days with this box set and its well woth the price.
