What We Do In Life Echoes In Eternity.
Winner of 5 Academy Awards statuettes, including Best Picture and Best Actor; Gladiator receives the 'Extended Special Edition' treatment. Personally overseen by director Ridley Scott, this 3-disc edition is loaded with new bonus materials and features 17 minutes of additional footage not shown in cinemas. This is the ultimate Gladiatorial experience!
The great Roman General Maximus (Russell Crowe) has once again led the legions to victory on the battlefield. The war won, Maximus dreams of home, wanting only to return to his wife and son; however, the dying Emperor Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris) has one more duty for the general - to assume the mantle of his power.
Jealous of Maximus' favour with the Emperor, the heir to the throne, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), orders his execution - and that of his family. Barely escaping death, Maximus is forced into slavery and trained as a gladiator in the arena where his fame grows.
Now he has come to Rome, intent on avenging the murder of his wife and son by killing the new emperor; Commodus....

One of the Greatest films ever made. Russell Crowe deservedly won an Oscar for his role as Soilder General turned Gladiator Maximus. How Ridley Scott never won an oscar aswell I will never know. The film is visually breathtaking & breathed new life into a genre that had been obselete since Ben Hur & Spartacus. & in the following decade since with so many poor imitations (Troy, Alexander The Great,300 etc) it's Gladiator that still reigns supreme. The story is dramatic & the action is brutal (espicially in the colliseuim). Great support from Jaoquin Phoenix as Commodus & 2 former hellraisers that have both passed away. The Late Richard Harris & Oliver Reed (who died before the film finished). As Maximus asks in the film "Are you not entertained?". The answer is most definatley YES. Oustanding. 5 Stars. (Can't wait for the Blu Ray)
Spectacular Sword & Sandals of Epic Proportions

I could watch this movie time and time again including all extras, extended etc. Fantastic cast, Great story (not exactly historically accurate) but that is a small price to pay for a movie of this magnitude. A must own DVD. 5star
