As a previous reviewer noted, several of Hitchcock's masterpieces are absent from this box set. There is one very simple reason for this - he films included here were produced by Universal, while others such as North By Northwest and Strangers on a Train (both Warners), Notorious (Selznick) and To Catch a Thief (Paramount) were produced by different companies. Ultimately, this is a great value box set, and all his other films save for a couple are available on DVD elsewhere.

What this box does contain is a great cross-section of the Master's work from the 40s through to the 70s, including several bona-fide contenders for the greatest film ever made (Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window), Hitchcock's personal favourite of all his movies (Shadow of a Doubt), some comparitavely lesser but still highly effective works (Rope, Marnie, The Birds, The Trouble With Harry) and a couple of slight misfires (Torn Curtain, Topaz - hey, with that many films to his credit, there have to be some which don't work quite as well).

Each of the films comes with a documentary, all of which give insights into Hitchcock's workings and ideas from people who knew him and those who appreciate and admire his work. Ultimately, this box is highly recommended for cinema fans everywhere.

It's a bit hard to review this box set, mostly because it is slightly inconsistent. It has several of Hitchcock's masterpieces here, Vertigo, Rear Window, Psycho and Rope, as well as some really good films like Shadow of a Doubt and The Birds. But there are also some quite bellow average films here, such as Saboteur or Torn Curtain.

However, I would recommend this box set, because it will certainly give you a great view into Hitchcock's filmography, and the masterpieces alone are worth the price.

Bottom line: Get it, its has a doable price, several great films and several so-so films, but with Hitchcock you cannot miss, and this set belongs in any film fans collection.

I think the reason this boxset doesnt have films such as "Dial M for Murder" etc is they were made by a different film studio and so can`t be included due to rights issues.
However there are hours and hours of superb viewing to be had here, although this set is ALOT cheaper on another website. His Masters Voice I think.

Ok, so it's *not called* "The Complete Alfred Hitchcock Collection".. (would be a bit hefty! - some 60 films directed by the great man)

But - was surprised at some of the choices in the set - Surely these would feature also?:

North by Northwest
To Catch a Thief
Strangers on a Train
Dial M for Murder

There are more of course, and opinions will vary - but a decent boxset (nice packaging too) to get your Hitchcock collection started at least.
