Review

It's an incredible cinematic adventure as the legendary Sinbad sets off on a dangerous journey to the mysterious Island of Colossus. His quest is to break the spell cast over his beloved princess by a diabolical magician. But before he can save her, Sinbad must battle an awesome collection of mythical monsters - the man-eating Cyclops, a saber-wielding skeleton, a ferocious two-headed bird called the Roc and a fire-breathing dragon.

The 7th Voyage of Sinbad still looks as dazzling today as when it was first released, with Ray Harryhausen's 'eye popping' special effects still capable of taking your breath away. The DVD also includes over 80 minutes of special features, including a documentary and three featurettes.

Well, this in my opinion is a poor effort. The Golden Voyage, Clash of the Titans and Jason and the Argonauts, i feel are far better than this. The major let down is the quality of the acting which is appalling to be fair. The actual script is sometimes laughable. Admittedly its typical of this genre but when comparing this film to the other pieces of work available as listed above, then this sticks out like poorly scripted sore thumb. Secondly, the main actor portraying Sinbad doesnt really look a Sinbad, so its hard to get drawn into the film. Even on the cover "Sinbad"looks more like a 50's rock n roll star with a sword :) However the animation is very impressive considering the age of this film especially with the Cyclops and thats why i give it 2 stars and not 1. To summarise, nice effects but awful dialogue.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Probably Ray Harryhausen's second best solo feature!

I collect Ray Harryhausen's work, and would say this is probably his second best solo feature movie after Jason and The Argonauts, although it was made before it and the battle with a single skeleton in this movie inspired the well known battle with the skeleton warriors in Jason.

All of his Sinbad movies, there are three and this was the first, have all the classic Harryhausen traits you would expect, non stop action, stop motion animation creatures and an extravagant epic look to all the characters and settings, big scary monsters, tiny people shrunk by magic, this movie has them all and more!

The 'snake lady' scene still gets people who've never seen it before going, 'Now THAT'S cool!'.

A rollercoaster fun film that all ages can enjoy (so long as they aren't expecting seamless perfection!).

The extra's aren't bad neither!

Thoroughly recommended!
