Gregory Peck won an Oscar for his brilliant performance as the Southern lawyer who defends a black man accused of rape in this film version of the Pulitzer Prize winning novel. The setting is a dusty Southern town during the Depression. A white woman accuses a black man of rape. Though he is obviously innocent, the outcome of his trial is such a foregone conclusion that no lawyer will step forward to defend him - except Peck, the town's most distinguished citizen. His compassionate defense costs him many friendships but earns him the respect and admiration of his two motherless children.

 A timeless classic

Just lovely adaptation of the classic novel with Peck as everyone's projection of the perfect dad in the shape of Atticus Finch. The dramatic meat of the film is the trial of a black man accused of raping a white woman, but really this is about the world as seen through the eyes of two children. Director Mulligan expertly captures all the joys and wonderments of growing up in a seemingly idyllic little existence that ultimately proves to be anything but.

Hollywood legend Gregory Peck gives his greatest ever screen performance as lawyer Atticus Finch in this unforgettable film. The film is from Harper Lee's incredible novel of the same name about a lawyer in the South defending a black man accused of raping a young girl.Peck won an oscar for his great performance.
The bonus features are very interesting also and complete a great package. 10/10

SImply this film is an all time classic, and im not just saying that.

Gregory pecks performance is fantastic, and the transfer from the original novel was, in terms of depth and message, seamless.

If there was an all time list of movies you must see, this would undoubtedly be there, if only for pecks performance as Atticus.

Decent movie / Incorrect technical details

If you have read the book before seeing this film, you will most likely be a bit disappointed. It's loyal to the story but necessary compromises leave it a little empty. I guess this is the case with most adaptations of great novels.

And about the DVD itself: The "Special Edition" most certainly is not anamorphic widescreen (as also erroneously printed on the case). It's letterbox all the way :(

 A classic

This is my all time favourite film, it is just perfect. Peck is outstanding as the small town lawyer defending a black man accused of rape in the racist south. Ifanybody wants to watch an intelligent, well acted film that has been adapted extremely well from a superb book, then, this is the film for you = 5 stars, superb
