very good film i remember watching back in the 90s. but be aware as the remake is a really bad remake and is no where as good as this one.

I'm sorry to disagree with most of the other reviews of this film, but it's pants. Old pants. Just because it's made in 1985 doesn't mean it has to be awful at all, but this is. Very dated effects, pitiful story line, hammy acting... not scary in the slightest. Can I have a refund?

Brilliant entry in the Vampire genre

A brilliant entry in the Vampire genre that easily holds that most difficult of balancing tricks, taking comedy and horror and making them work together.Chris Sarandon is insperational as the charming, handsome new neighbour just moved in next door and the ever reliable Roddy Mcdowell is always watchable.Fantastic,And a hundred times better than the TRULY TERRIBLE part 2.

Welcome to fright night. . . for real

This is one of those cult horrors that not everyone has heard of and it's unfortunate because this is very entertaining. The main character is a kid who is a big horror fan who one night notices a coffin being loaded into the house next to his and his suspicions start to arise further when people begin to die. He tries to get help from his hero, a tv vampire killer played by the legendary roddy mcdowell but nobody believes him. Chris sarandon plays the vampire next door and it has to be one of his best performances. He is so suave and almost like a playboy. Watch out for the remake with colin farrell. It should be in cinema soon

  Anyone upset about the remake?

I love this movie, it's one of my favourite horror movies ever. It does a fantastic job of mixing the horror and comedy genres together without going too far. I was weary at first when I heard they were releasing a remake next year, especially with Colin Farrell playing Jerry Dandridge. I just don't see how that is going to work. Having said that, with David Tennant playing Peter Vincent and Christopher Mintz-Plasse playing Evil, maybe, just maybe, it might actually work!

  Frightfully good

Firstly to the guy that says its dated and needs remaking total nonsense, thats like saying every film made in this era is dated and needs remaking. Fright night is one of those magic horror films that works so well nothing needs changing. The bonus of the film is that it has the late great Roddy McDowall playing such a wonderful character. The acting is good and the film has plenty of scares to make any horror fan happy. They dont make them like this anymore and at this price you would be a sucker not to buy this great film.
