Iron Man: Ultimate Edition (2008) (2 Discs)

This movie has it all , humor , action , great story and great acting ....most marvel movies drag on them becoming there hero ....but this one is enjoyable to watch and it sets the way for avengers movie , as sheild are mentioned and you understand more in hulk, not just for marvel fans its for anyone who likes action and outstanding effects

Lets face it 2008 was all about 1 film and that was The Dark Knight, most other movies of the year (ironically) fell under it's shadow. With that being said it is a definite fact that bringing out another superhero/comic book film that year was going to hurt it somewhat and maybe thats why unfortunately Iron Man didnt do as much business as it could have.
Not to say Iron Man didnt do well it still had a strong box office showing and recieved possitiv reveiws and rightly so. Jon Favreau, in no way copying but in in the same style as The Dark Knights Nolan, opts for a more realistic feeling comic book movie but where Nolan went for themes like terrorism and sacrifice Favreau goes for the man of science angle. Showing the development of the Iron Man supersuit is a pure genius move and gives the movie a grounded feel that makes the film so likable. This isnt some dude who was sprayed by toxic waste, got caught in an atom bomb explosion and goes green when he gets mad or got bit by a radioactive spider (all great origin stories but silly non-the-less) this is a science genius who creates a masterpiece.
The story is of Tony Stark (Downey) a genius science wizz kid who now runs a successful weapons manufacturing company. When Tony is kidnapped by terrorists who want him to build a bomb for them Tony decides instead to build a suped up armour suit to bust free and is successful even though the suit doesnt survive. After his experience Tony goes from irresponsible millionaire playboy to hero and decides that he's done making weapons for other but still has 1 more weapon to make for himself. He builds a new version of the suit and becomes Iron Man and his first order of business, taking out the terrorists who attacked him.
This film has a brilliant cast, Jeff Bridges loving the badguy role and Terrence Howard bring his usual stoic charm to James Rhodes, Tony Starks military liason and fulltime babysitter and even Gwyneth Paltrow is put uppable as Pepper Potts. But this film really belongs to Robert Downey Jr as it is a tour-de-forc`e performance and he is in the film 99% of the time. His braggidocious, arrogant, obnoxious but still charming and lovable Tony Stark is the strong back that carries the movie and although there's no Oscar nod it is a performance to rival that of Heath Ledgers - In fact if it was Heath Ledgers Joker going up against Robert Downey Jrs Iron Man we could have the PERFECT comic book flick! Jon Favreau chooses high octane action scenes mixed with a brilliant comedic performance by Downey making Iron Man worth it and although Dark Knight got all the attention Iron Man holds it's own.
This 2 disc edition of the film is well worth it with over 4 hours of special features that include deleted and alternate scenes, multiple featurettes on the making of the film including an in-depth look at the making of the suit. Interviews with cast and crew, trailers, tv spots and so much more and all for less than a tenner too!
So where as Dark Knight may have been the huge superpower of 2008 Iron Man is still one of the best superhero flicks out there and deserves to be recognized as so next to the aforementioned Dark Knight, X Men 2, Spider-Man & Spider-Man 2 & the Tim Burton Batmans from 15 years ago, simply awesome!

Really ended up enjoying this movie, story was lean and to the point, not many unnecessary scenes.
Effects were brilliant, supporting cast was mixed, big fan of jeff "the dude" bridges, but didn't think he was right for the role, terrence howard was good, can't usually stand gwenyth paltrow but she was surprisingly likeable.
But this was totally the robert downey jnr show, he was fantastic. Not perfect, not always right, but always watchable.
Major respect to the studio and people who gave him the greenlight to head the cast of a 150 million dollar movie after all his ups and downs. Can't wait for the sequel....and the avengers movie!!!!!
P.s watch it right to the end past all the credits.

all out action from start to finish,well worth spending time to view this movie,never read the comics i guess fans of the comics will love seeing the comic brought to life on the big screen more. will not disapoint ,will totaly blow your mind, the story and visual effects are fab az is the characters.if guns ammo explosions flying men in body armoured suits equipped with a whole arsenal of weapons blowing,shooting,fighting like a one man army is your cup of tea buy,loan,borrow,grab this movie seriously

Never really followed the comic but this was brilliant can't wait for the next part!!
