Review

Based upon Mark Millar's explosive graphic novel series and helmed by stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov - creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the Night Watch series - Wanted tells the tale of one apathetic nobody's transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice.

25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock punching rut.

Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie).

After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad's death by unlocking his dormant powers. As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself.

With wickedly brilliant tutors - including the Fraternity's enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman) - Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye. And as he wavers between newfound heroism and vengeance, Wes will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny.

this is possibly one of the worst films i have ever seen, a mystical loom giving the names of peope to kill, who ever thought that was a good idea?? Avoid this film at all costs.

It's very possibly a love it or hate it film, this one. Crazy and energetic and manic all in kinds of ways, you just have to go with the flow and not start to think about it!

But the action scenes are terrific in their specatcularly OTT realisation - cars do impossible things, people do impossible things and conversations are held as the ruins of a train hang off a bridge over a deep gorge - and they work very well.

The story of a nobody finding he can be somebody thanks to the influence of others is hardly new but the frentic pace and attitude of Wanted gives it a whole new spin!

James McAvoy shows he can do action, Angelina can do this kind of stuff in her sleep and Morgan Freeman makes ludicrous dialogue sound genuine!

All in all, a beautifully bonkers action film (with a refreshingly warranted 18 rating), and I'm quite looking forward to the rumoured sequels!

I remember watching this film before it came out on DVD and I thought wow must watch it again. Having seem it for a second time I can safely say this is the type of film you watch once, or once in a long long while. The story is OK, the action is very Matrix and quite gruesome in places. Acting however is mixed, Angelina seems to be just her usual self - in other words she doesn't seem to act any different to how she is in real life (cold and highly strung - like I know her!). Morgan Freeman is always good and when he's on the screen I listen. James McAvoy is OK - having said that it's only the second film I have seen with him in it.

To summerise, watch once, don't overthink the plot, just a bit of hard hitting fun with dots of action sprinkled in.
