I have to say I'm a fan of the three main actors in this film and seeing them together in Unleashed cements my appreciation further.
This film has something for everyone in my opinion, action, emotion, comedy it's an unusual combination of martial arts and a feel good flick. Well put together and highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a good story with some added punch ups!
What a film

One of my favourite films to date. Jet li, Morgan freeman and bob hoskins..... What a cast. This has everything. A good story, great acting and some amazing fight scenes. Even my wife loves this one.
Even if you dont like martial arts this film is still a must

Jet Li's best acting by far. set in an 'apparent' Glasgow, young danny has been raised as a kid to fight, stupidly some other reviewers have criticized the lack of panoramic overshots but this is blatantly the directors way of enclosing the viewers vision giving them a deeper insight into the restricted, enslaved world of danny. when he finds freedom and experiences happiness for the first time you will be guaranteed to be moved and danny's pain is surprisingly well felt from jet-li's rare acting skills.
a must own and deffinatly see!!
Butt kickingly good!

At first I heard of this film I was expecting just mindless violence and language. However I was presently surprised. I haven't seen Jet Li before in film except Hero, I thought he was just in the film because of his excellent fighting skills, however I was proved wrong, he portrays very well the neglected, bullied and basically "used" Danny, a gangsters tool (Bob Hoskins) yes, he can be a nasty person in film, to basically beat up and kill people with "outstanding" debts. And is attached to a collar which controls him, and when released all hell is unleashed. I was happy and surprised when Morgan Freeman turned up, who accepts Danny into his family along with daughter Kerry Condon, who add a strong sense of emotion and feeling to the film, as Danny, who becomes happy in his new family, must struggle between his new life, and the demons of his past. Unable to put his new life and family in danger, Danny must confront his old life, and the truth about his mothers death. Overall everyone acts well in this film and it is a great watch it manages to be an emotional thought provoking ride. The chemistry between the family, especially Jet Li and Kerry Condon is amazingly believable and surprising. Kerry Condon rising star? I certainly hope so! Danny the Dog/Unleashed triumphs where many others have tried and failed miserably. A must see for anyone in my opinion.
A surprisingly solid film

I went in to watch this film with no expectations at all, I got this as part of the Jet Li double pack of Fearless/Unleashed mainly for Fearless, but boy was I surprised.
The film was fantastic, there are some great acting turns from Li and Hoskins, Li in particular makes you feel his pain of being treated the way he has been and the ecstacy of joy he feels when he discovers compassion and love.
I was TBH expecting a very average film with some decent fight scene, what I got was a Solid heartfelt story with some very solid fighting and action.
I don't think i've actually seen Jet Li act this good, the film totally blew my mind with action as well as some of the comedy sections when Danny is being inducted back into the society he has never understood before.
It would have got 5/5 from me if it hadn't have been for the ending, but that doesn't spoil the film in anyway at all, this is definitly a film I'll be spreading the word around, and it's the first time in ages i've found such an underated gem of a film.
A surprisingly interesting storyline.

It jumps you straight into the action, mouthwatering fight scenes with Jet Li doing what he does best! We see plenty of violence and although a little tongue in cheek it still makes you go 'ooooouccccch!' then the film almost changes its Genre without warning, and youre like 'hang on....what the hell happened here?!'
This film is good though dont get me wrong! It has great action scenes and a storyline that could crack the strongest of hearts. Its like Edward Scissorhands but with LOTS of added VIOLENCE!
I recommend you see it!
Top notch Jet Li action with a good storyline

If you're into martial arts movies, this film is right up your street, the fightling scenes are very well choreographed and sound amazing if you watch through surround sound turned up nice n loud, the storyline is pretty good for a martial arts movie (if you like extreme with a weak storyline I recommend Kungfu Hussle).
Hero

This took me by surprise, I expected a no holds barred actioner with a loose storyline and mouthwatering fighting. What I got was a fairly alright storyline but bolstered with a great turn from Jet Li. I was suprised with how much he gives you to empathise with his character. It's a bit too sweet at times, and Hoskins camps it up a little as a boisterous bad guy, but it's a very well rounded film, entertaining, moving and it's got Morgan Freeman in it. A man that never has bad day at work.
Unleash it now!
Underdeveloped potential.

This movie could have been oh so much more, as it was, it was pleasant but ultimately a tad disappointing.
Apparently this movie is set in Glasgow, not that you'd know it; there's not a single Glaswegian accent, come to that, but I can't recall hearing a single Scottish accent, not even from a shopkeeper! The only discernible accents were English and American, which begs the question, why bother 'setting' it in Glasgow in the first place? This point is underscored by the fact that, as the filming is mainly close range, there are no city shots or panoramic views to take in, therefore, as far as the storyline goes this film could have been set in almost any city anywhere in the world.
Therein lies the general let down with this movie; overall it lacks credibility.
As the film progresses we are meant to believe that Jet Li transforms from a 'caged like a wild dog since childhood /'vicious fighting machine character' who is brought out by Bob Hoskins his gangster master as and when 'business' needs to be enforced, into a free-thinking, free-willed, classical music loving human who desires a life of non-violence. The complexity of this role would be a challenge for many an actor and is a little too ambitious for Li at this stage in his career, though with it he is clearly setting out his stall for more acting rather than action roles.
Morgan Freeman puts in one of his best performances, and is the most credible in the movie. He plays a good-hearted, blind, US piano tuner who through a chance meeting befriends Jet Li (in a scene reminiscent of Frankenstein being befriended by a little blind girl).
However, it is the overall believability of the movie that lets it down, apart from one throw away line we're given no real scale of time for the development of Li's character; is it a few days? weeks? months? who knows? But the fault for this lies between the director and weak scriptwriting, not the actors.
