A bumper box set of classic films featuring, 'The Love Goddess' herself, Rita Hayworth!
Gilda (Dir. Charles Vidor, 1946): The legendary Rita Hayworth sizzles with sensuality and magnetism as she sings "Put the blame on Mame", and delivers a dazzling performance as the enticing temptress Gilda. In the story of Gilda, Johnny Farrell (Glenn Ford) goes to work for Ballin Mundson (George MacReady), the proprietor of an illegal gambling casino in a South American city, and quickly rises to become Mundson's "main man". All is well until Mundson returns from a trip with his new bride, Gilda - a woman from Johnny's past. Mundson, unaware of the previous love affair, assigns Farrell the job of ensuring Gilda is a faithful wife. Fraught with hatred, Gilda does her best to antagonize, intimidate, and instil jealousy in Farrell - until circumstances allow him to get even.
You'll Never Get Rich (Dir. Sidney Lanfield, 1941): After his wife discovers a telltale diamond bracelet, impresario Martin Cortland tries to show he's not chasing after showgirl Sheila Winthrop. Choreographer Robert Curtis gets caught in the middle of the boss's scheme. Army conscription offers Robert the perfect escape from his troubles- or does it?
Lady From Shanghai (Dir. Orson Welles, 1948): Fascinated by the gorgeous Mrs. Bannister (Hayworth), seaman Michael O'Hara (Welles) joins a bizarre yachting cruise, and ends up mired in a complex murder plot...
Magnificent Showman (Dir. Henry Hathaway, 1964): Circus owner Matt Masters is beset by disasters as he attempts a European tour of his circus. At the same time, he is caught in an emotional bind between his adopted daughter and her mother.
Miss Sadie Thompson (Dir. Curtis Bernhardt, 1953): Based on a Somerset Maugham story about a hooker (Rita Hayworth) who enchants a religious fanatic. Stranded on a Pacific island during World War II, she waits for the ship that will take her to her new job as a nightclub singer. She quickly draws the attention of a compassionate Marine (Aldo Ray), who she finds unexpected love with. However her newfound happiness is threatened as the local minister Alfred Davidson (Jose Ferrer) takes strongly against the alliance.
Salome (Dir. William Dieterle, 1953): In the reign of Emperor Tiberius, Galilean prophet John the Baptist preaches against King Herod and Queen Herodias. The latter wants John dead, but Herod fears to harm him due to a prophecy. Enter beautiful Princess Salome, Herod's long-absent stepdaughter. Herodias sees the king's dawning lust for Salome as her means of bending the king to her will. But Salome and her lover Claudius are (contrary to Scripture) nearing conversion to the new religion. The famous climactic dance turns out to have unexpected implications...
