With both Tom Baker and Lalla Ward clearly on the top of their game this delightful slice of 1979 'classic series' Who offers up some marvellous comedic lines, well defined characters, effective incidental music and pleasing use of its Paris location. Undoubtedly one of the best regarded stories from this particular era of the show its arrival on DVD is certainly well worth the wait with customers being treated to an impressive two disc title. Rather than squeeze extras alongside the story the BBC can be more generous on what they can offer and this is led off by the interesting, informative and pleasingly structured 44 min "Paris In The Springtime" making of documentary. If you can avoid being unduly put off by its primitive occasionally jerky black and white nature then the 20 min "Paris, W12" extra presents a fascinating glimpse into the studio recording of this story featuring the occasional deleted additional footage to established scenes. "Eye On... Blatchford" is an amusing 'tongue in cheek' fan film about Sardoth, the Second-to-Last of the Jagaroth and personally I rather like it! Although credited to writer David Agnew the very flavour of this script breaths Douglas Adams unique writing style and its great to see him feature in "Paris In The Springtime" and the third 6 ½ min easter egg. Other than that you've got a couple of model/effects extras (Prehistoric Landscapes - 2 ½ mins & Chicken Wrangler - 2 ¾ mins), three other easter egg extras and the usual photo gallery (this one is about 8 ¾ mins). A great, highly enjoyable story backed up by entirely praiseworthy wide range of extras. You certainly won't be disappointed if you add this to your collection!
