Cyrano (Depardieu), master swordsman and poet, feels he can not woo his beloved Roxanne (Anne Brochet) due to an unfortunate physical flaw: his grotesquely large nose. Resigning himself to helping another suitor, the dashing yet tongue-tied Christian (Vincent Perez), Cyrano uses his mastery of words to win Roxanne for him. But when Roxanne finds that she has fallen for Christian's mind - and not for his beauty - which of her two suitors will finally possess her heart?
One of France's literary treasures commands the screen with this exceptional adaptation of Rostand's classicl novel that received a Best Foreign Film Golden Globe and five Oscar nominations, including Best Actor for Gerard Depardieu!

This was possibly the 1st foreign language film I saw, and it did not put me off whatsoever. Such a beautifully played piece and equally so the visual. For those who don't normally venture towards foreign films, don't be put off by subtitles - you miss out on so much!
