Phantasm (1979): If this one doesn't scare you, you're already dead!

After their friend is murdered, two brothers begin a hunt in search of the killer. Their investigation leads them to the discovery of a startling and hideous secret. As the brothers learn more about what is really going on at Morningside mortuary (involving a floating sphere with razor-sharp protruding daggers which seeks out victims and drains the blood from their heads) they get deeper into trouble but it may be already too late!

Phantasm 2 - The Ball Is Back (1988): Armed with his lethal band of flying silver spheres, the deadly mortician who was thought to have killed his last victim nine years ago returns more dangerous than ever!

Once again, young Michael Pearson and his pal Reggie take on the master of the killer orbs as they race against time and risk their lives to thwart his murderous rampage forever...

Phantasm 3 - Lord Of The Dead (1994): Thirteen years after the original nightmare began, Mike and Reggie reunite with the spirit of Mike's dead brother and are pursued by The Tall Man through warped dimensions of space and time. Who will reign supreme?

Prepare to be scared witless as the fine line between the living and the dead snaps with a vengeance!

Phantasm 4 - Oblivion (1998): The sequel with balls!

The nightmare lives on... but humanity may not! The Phantasm saga reaches its terrifying climax in a horrific explosion of gut-wrenching battles, lethal flying spheres and a spine-tingling quest to discover, once and for all, the secret of the mysterious Tall Man.

For years, the Tall Man (Angus Scrimm) has waged a gruesome war against humanity, slowly populating the world with his undead legions. But two determined heroes, Mike (A. Michael Baldwin) and Reggie (Reggie Bannister), have pledged to stop the horrifying onslaught - for good! By hurling themselves through a gateway in the time/space continuum, they're able to unearth a vital clue from their enemy's past that may put an end to the horror. But the Tall Man, not to be so easily defeated, is massing his dark army for a blood-curdling final assault in which Michael and Reggie must fight not only for their own lives, but future of all mankind.

Directed by Phantasm creator Don Coscarelli, and including never-before-seen footage excised from the bone-chilling original, Phantasm: Oblivion is a nerve-shattering horror thriller charged with astonishing special effects and shocking scenes of pure terror. Brace yourself for a journey beyond your worst nightmares!

A must have for fans of the series

The Phantasm experience is not for everyone.
Disturbing, and deliriously strange this collection of bizzare horror films features the iconic 'Tall Man' - a classic, unstoppable villain who is calculating and remorseless in his pursuit of small town boy Mike and his friend, ice cream salesman turned shotgun wielding hero Reggie, after the duo stumble upon his macabre schemes - posing as an undertaker, The Tall Man is bringing the dead back to life as a variety of horrid creatures.

The Tall Man's motives are never quite clear but it's hinted throughout the series that he is creating an army of undead for transportation to his own dimension.

Confused? You certainly will be.

Phantasm is a highly unusual and imaginative piece of cinema, not easily forgotten - for the right reasons. It is genuinely disturbing and builds a real sense of foreboding which the viewer will find difficult to shake - and the first time you see the flying sphere bore into a skull will be a moment you long remember! It plays on paranoid fears and anyone brought up in a small town will instantly connect with Phantasm.

Phantasm 2 is more action orientated, with the two protaganists travelling across the country to hunt down The Tall Man. Armed with chainsaws, quadruple barrel shotguns and hand grenades they take on the forces of evil.

Installments 3 and 4 are poor in comparison and the acting in both is nothing short of diabolical but the films will be enjoyed by anyone who bought into the mythos established by the original.

The extras disc has plenty to enjoy - especially for fanboys - and this is a worthy purchase for all horror buffs.

The most arthouse mainstream sci-fi/horror hybrid ever committed to celluloid finally arrives on a shiny disc, and the wait has been worth it!

For die-hard "Phans", this release is everything that they could've hoped for, and much, much more; for the uninitiated, it's the perfect point of entry into the bizarre world of The Tall Man and his minute minions.

To even try to submit a synopsis of the movie, and it's more than acceptable sequels, here would be an exercise in futility...the features contained within this frankly stunning package are more about implication and nuance than they are a linear, coherent storyline.

Fans of David Lynch will revel in the surreal atmosphere conjured up by the underrated Don Coscarelli, whilst admirers of Seventies cinema will no doubt enjoy the movie's Grindhouse aesthetic.

Weird, wonderful, exciting and essential...It'll change the way you look at grave yards forever! :)

 A Phan Of Phantasm!

I'm not usually a fan of horror but I've got a real soft spot for the Phantasm series. The films are creepy, intriguing and funny. The first film introduces heroes Reggie and Mike and creepy villain The Tall Man - it's my favourite as it's really original. Part 2, as the title suggests, sees the return of The Tall Man and his army of flying spheres - not quite as good as the original but not far off. I have a real soft spot for part 3 as I love the idea of the spirit of Mike's dead brother teaming up with Mike and Reggie. I love the character of Rocky as well - such a bad ass! Part 4 is my least favourite of the series but still a good film as we see Mike and Reggie travel through time and space to try and decipher the mystery of The Tall Man.

Part 5 of this phan-tastic series is due out later this year. I hope it will get a cinematic release as I'm too young to have caught the first few at the pictures. However, even if it's straight to DVD, I shall look forward to the ending of a great story!
