Top 100 DVD Reviewer

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed 'The Departed' I couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed with it. Perhaps that is because the original trilogy impressed me SO much on my initial viewing that I could have only ever seen Scorsese's version an an imitation. Ever since the inception of DVD I have finally been able to get hold of quality versions of classic foreign films as well as been finally able to experience a far wider range of what Asian cinema has to offer. In 'Infernal Affairs' Andy Lau and Tony Leung are quite simply fantastic as the two leads engaged in a tense cat and mouse game with each other. Phenomenal support is provided by the wonderful Tony Wong and a suprisingly menacing turn from Eric Tsang, the direction is superb, the plotline zips along at breakneck pace and is both full of twists and turns and fantastically tense. The two sequels successfully expand on the original with the sequel actually being a quasi-prequel and the third part continuing the tale from where 'Infernal Affais' 1 left off. In the world of the movie trilogy people will forever cite Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Godfather as the greatest examples ever. But 'Infernal Affairs' is no mere pretender to the throne - here is a trilogy that is both complex, rich in detail and guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat. So, well done Marty but no cigar this time...

Andy Lau and Tony Leung both give excellent performances in this Hong Kong trilogy of insiders in the Triads and the Hong Kong Police force. It keeps you interested throughout and should be considered a modern Hong Kong movie classic. The first film is the blueprint for the hollywood film The Departed and if you were a fan of that then you should really check this trilogy out.
