Four of Shakespeare's best known plays are interpreted into modern settings by some of Britain's leading television writers.

A Midsummer Night's Dream: Adapted by Peter Bowker (Blackpool) and stars Imelda Staunton, Bill Patterson, Rupert Evans and Johnny Vegas. This rewrite takes place during a weekend in a holiday park.

Theo and Polly have come to Dream Park to celebrate their daughter Hermia's engagement. But the course of true love never did run smooth, and the night ahead holds revelations, fairies, transformations and plenty of love juice.

The Taming Of The Shrew: Starring Twiggy and Stephen Tompkinson , Jamie Murray and Rufus Sewell this re-working is adapted by Sally Wainwright (The Canterbury Tales).

Katherine Minola is a succesful politician, tipped for the leadership of her party. The only problem is, her awful temper has left her a 38 year old singleton, and everyone, from her party chairman to her sister, wants her to get married. Is passionate eccentric Petruchio the answer to her prayers?

Much Ado About Nothing: Featuring Sarah Parish as Beatrice, presenter of a popular early evening news show whose ex-lover and arch enemy Bendrick (played by Damian Lewis) is hired as her co-anchor. Billie Piper stars as the weather girl in this reworking by David Nicholls (Cold Feet).

When the bickering between broadcasters Beatrice and Benedick gets too much to take, their colleagues at South West TV come up with a cunning plan to shut the pair up. Meanwhile, lovely weathergirl Hero and dashing reporter Claude are a match made in heaven - but does everyone want to see them so happy?

Macbeth: Written by Peter Moffat (Cambridge Spies) and starring the up-and-coming James McAvoy and Keeley Hawes.

Top chef Joe Macbeth has worked hard to make Duncan Docherty's restaurant a success. So, when he's told it'll all be his one day, what's to stop him taking it now?

i've never really been into shakespeare stories in general, pretty much because i used to base my judgement mostly upon 'romeo & juliet', which is just not my kind of thing at all, and also like alot of people, i find that theres a bit of a language barrier!

but the BBC version of these 4 shakespear stories are just so well done- they are very entertaining, funny, well scripted, and also very well cast!

it prooved to me that shakespeare is very famous in the world of literacy and theater for a good reason!

 Perfect "adaptation"

Macbeth and Taming are my favourites. Amazing contemporary revisitations of Shakespeare's original plays. Can be an escamotage to make some people watch some Shakespeare!

PS Does anybody know if the dvds have subtitles? Thanks!
