A brilliant take on "A Christmas Carol"

| | See all supernotts's reviews (24)

This magical movie is taken from the book "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. It is played by Jim Hensons "Muppets" and is narrated by Gonzo. Ebenezer Scrooge (played by Michael Caine) is visited by the ghosts of present, past and future on Christmas Eve to try and make him change his tight fisted ways. It is brilliantly acted by all the characters including the great comic Rizzo.

Bonus features: Bloopers and a profile of Gongo.

  A must have!

Totally ruined with the editing if Belle's song - my favourite part of the film like many others. Also have a copy on VHS which is now loosing its colour. Let's hope a true copy on DVD/Blu Ray comes out soon!!!

The best family Christmas carol film

| | See all balmoraljames's reviews (228)

This film is a far better bet for the whole family than the new Disney Christmas carol as it is far less scary for little ones and has a much more entertaining slant for children, plus it's the muppets what more do you need.

  one of the best!!

I love, and have seen pretty much every "christmas carol" film ever made, and when I first knew the Muppets had made their version, I wondered why on earth would they bother to ruin such a great tale.

HOW wrong was I, I love this film, its stays pretty much to the story, but the muppets and Michael Caine are fantastic--- well done Mr Henson!!!!! just off to buy a new copy!!!

  A Christmas Must!

I absolutely LOVE this film. I first watched it about 7 years ago and i'm now 28 and its still one of my Christmas favourites! Every Christmas i dig it out and watch it and i have been know on several occasions to make my mum and dad watch it to...which now results in me and my dad reciting lines from it all year long! It never gets boring despite me knowing practically every scene and word off by heart. Buy it i promise you will not be disappointed!

  A Christmas Cracker!!

I adore this film! It is the epitome of Christmas in our house and a bit of a tradition - we've watched it on Christmas Eve for over a decade!! I do agree with the other reviewers that cutting Belle's song "The Love Is Gone" was a dreadful idea. I didn't realise until the scene just cut away and I thought the DVD had jumped, when I realised that the song was removed I trawled the internet and found one edition (Region 1) that still had the song. So I bought it and accessorised with a multi-region DVD player (cost approx 25 pounds) to play it on - a bit extreme? Well, personally, I don't think so - like I said watching this movie together is a family tradition and well worth the money!! Altogether now... "After all there's only one more sleep to Christmas Day." Bliss.

  Wonderful film BUT....

...WHY, oh WHY, did they cut out Belle's song?? That was one of my favourite songs in the film and gives it a really nice poignant moment in amongst all the Muppett comedy!!
Plus, it then doesn't make sense when at the end they sing "The love we found", as if everyone's supposed to know the song!!

Even with this song being cut out I still watch it every single year and will continue to do so till I'm much older than I am!!

My favourite Christmas film, without doubt, but I hate that they took out the Belle song. I have it on video and the Belle song is still in it so why did they remove it for the DVD?!
