Prepare for the fantastic!

The lifelong dream of inventor, astronaut and scientist Dr. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) is close to being realized. He is spearheading a trip to outer space, to the center of a cosmic storm. There he hopes to unlock the secrets of the human genetic codes for the benefit of all humanity. Extensive government grant cutbacks nearly dashed the visionary's hopes of the historic flight, until Reed accepted a financing deal with his old college rival, Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon), now a billionaire industrialist.

Reed's crew for the mission includes his best friend, astronaut Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis); Sue Storm (Jessica Alba), Von Doom's director of genetic research and Reed's ex-girlfriend; and Sue's hot-headed younger brother, pilot Johnny Storm (Chris Evans). With benefactor Von Doom in tow, the four set off for the exploration of a lifetime.

The mission is uneventful - until Reed discovers a miscalculation of the speed of the approaching storm. Within minutes, the event threshold is upon them. The space station is engulfed by turbulent clouds of cosmic radiation which genetically transforms the crew. Their DNA is irrevocably altered - and so is their future.

Back on earth, the effects of the exposure are quickly revealed. Reed gains the ability to stretch and contort his body into any shape he can imagine and, as leader of the group, is given the name Mr. Fantastic; Sue is able to render herself invisible and to create and project powerful force fields as Invisible Woman; Johnny becomes known as The Human Torch, as he can now engulf his body in flames and take flight at will; and Ben, whose freakish transmutation is the most shocking, becomes an orange-colored, rock-like, superhumanly strong creature, The Thing.

Together, they turn tragedy into triumph and catastrophe into coalition, using their unique and formidable powers to thwart the evil plans of their now steely-eyed, iron-fisted nemesis Dr. Doom...

The Fantastic 4 is a fantastic film, this is one of the best marvel movies that they have made to date, great fun story with the epic villain Dr Doom who looks super cool, The casting was great too all the characters are fun and look just the way they do in the comic, great effects and overall a brilliant comic book treat, this is a must have, always will be a classic!!

     The 'pretty cool' 4.

Do you know what.........i actually really enjoyed this one.
I had heard/read a lot of criticism about the film but went in open minded, the result was just that,a result.
The fx were pretty cool, especially the Thing. The interplay between The Human Torch and The Thing i felt was nailed....it was great.
The acting was so-so but push that aside and enjoy this for what it is,a good family movie and Marvel movie.

     great

You know, I don't really know the comics, so I approached this with an open mind and hoping it wasn't as bad as The Hulk but not expecting anything as good as The Xmen movies, and do you know, that's what I got.

It's not going to tax your brain, it's not pushing any boundaries, it's not that fantastic, some of it doesn't make sense, but if you want something to watch this weekend that's a damn site better than those re-runs of Star Trek on constant loop, you can do a lot worse than buy this.

Cautiously recommended, the main event ain't bad at all, and the extras are great!

Oh, and it contains quite a bit of near-nudity, from both sexes of resident eye candy, so if nothing else...

Fantastic Four? A slightly underwhelming three...

Average is the best word to describe the Fantastic Four movie, failing as it does to TRULY do justice to the comics. Far lighter in tone than 'Batman Begins' and the Spiderman and X-Men movies Tim Story (director of Barbershop and the horrendous 2004 remake of Taxi) seemed a terrible decision to direct this adaptation when compared to the likes of Chris Nolan, Sam Raimi and Bryan Singer. And Story is by far a weaker director than the aforementioned geniuses delivering a far more mainstream, child-friendly movie than previous Marvel outings. Having said that, however, there is still much to enjoy about the proceedings. The Thing and The Human Torch are portrayed perfectly with their on-going love/hate relationship and Chris Evans proves to be a suprisingly charismatic choice to play Johnny Storm. The action-packed bridge scene is well constructed and the whole affair is suprisingly well-humoured. On the other hand the special effects range from the good to the not-so-good, some of the 'comic' moments sit a little uneasily amongst the action, Jessica Alba seems to have been chosen for her looks rather than her acting and, worst of all, Dr. Doom isn't given the treatment he truly deserves. Changing his genesis from the original comic books is forgivable but Julian McMahon fails to infuse his portrayal with enough menace. But it's certainly not all bad, if you like the Marvel characters and want something a bit lighter than usual give it a spin, it's certainly a vast improvement on what I've seen of the unreleased original version (check out the hilariously bad ending over on YouTube). With an extended cut on the horizon (20 minutes longer) I'll certainly be interested to see what additions are made, though I doubt whether any changes will greatly improve the finished product. Let's just hope and pray that Tim and the gang tighten things up a little for this year's sequel and don't mess up the Silver Surfer. The Sentient of the Spaceways deserves much more than this...
