 Powerfull stories and strong characters

Based on one of manga's brilliant story tellers, Shirow Masamune. The Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. gives us more insight into the characters from the movie and introduces new ones. This is done in breathtaking animation (superior to that of the movies in my opinion) excellent stories and the soundtrack isn't bad either. Though the menu selection screens are a bit disappointing and can be off putting at times. All-in-all I would highly recommend this box set for any fan of animation and good story telling. A Manga Must!!!

Possibly the best TV series of the last twenty years

It's unfortunate that animé has yet to gain widespread mainstream acceptance (even if, god help us, we're likely to have a US-based live-action version of AKIRA inflicted on us at some time in the not too distant future) because every now and again the genre produces something that is truly exceptional. First gig is a prime example, even if most of the folks you know have never heard of it.

This first series of GITS addresses complex societal and psychological issues, examines where the increasing use of technology is likely to take mankind, has a soundtrack by Yoko Kanno - one of the finest composers to ever come out of Japan - and delivers kick-ass action and the cutest robots ever to feature in a science fiction story. Quite why this series hasn't been given a prime time showing on British television is beyond me, as it outclasses pretty much everything else on the telly. It's that good. Buy it.

No better Anime than Ghost in the Shell

I am of the older generation and so get a little tired of the squeaky screaming girls in a lot of Anime and lack of depth. I have only started collecting for 15 months and have a stack of different things but, GITS is the best there is. Great animation, humour, depth of characters, depth of storyline, great soundtrack and i just got hooked and had to keep watching. I've looked, but there is nothing else that ticks 'every' box. It doesn't need 'fan service' to attract watchers.

Not only that but as there is a lot of dialogue and you sometimes lose track with so much detail, there are extras with each episode to give you a run down of whats going on! The English dub is great too. As there is no good reason on earth not to buy this, i can't understand why there is still the stock! You can't afford to miss it.

The very BEST mature anime series there is!

Both seasons of this series, and the follow-up movie 'Solid State Society' are the absolute cream of mature Japanese animation. The characters, are interesting, the plots are complex and involving, the art is brilliant - hell, even the dubbing is superb (in fact, I prefer the dubbed English voices to the original Japanese ones, which is not something I usually opt for with anime). I doubt this will be bettered for a very long time, and roll on 3rd GIG!!

 Play.com well done

I'll start with the great value for money in terms of viewing... Play.com offer this boxset for £16... that's a right bargain, 26 episodes each disc containing interviews and extras which adds to the value for money. If you think that each episode is approx 25mins long and theirs 26 episodes in this boxset your getting great value for money.
Right now onto the anime, it's really good if you like guns action and i'd say a futuristic feel to it. I watched it and thought it was great but there were times when i was watching it i got a tad bored but throughout it was pure class... i don't think it would appeal to every anime fan however so i'd advise maybe watch 1 episode online or something? just to get a feel of what it's like... But definatly buy it here you won't get a better price!
