 A triumph

I saw this film originally at the Bradford Animation Festival a few years ago and never before have I witnessed a children's film moving so many people to tears by the end. I would have laughed... had I not been so red of eye myself! It's beautiful, heartwarming stuff. The musical score fits perfectly with the animation and I guarantee it will become a DVD that you take off the shelf to watch year after year. The price is fantastic for the quality of film you're getting.

 Simply superb

My 3 year old son loved the book (and so did I) so when I saw this on we had to watch it and I'm happy to say I honestly think this is better than the book! They've added to the story and the animation looks great, a must watch for all ages!

 Disappointing!

Don't get me wrong, this is a beautifully animated short film with a lovely soundtrack. However as a parent to a 3 year old who has read this book too many times to count, i was very disappointed that the words of the book are not used as the narration. They would have fitted perfectly within the animation and there are certain parts of the book that are missed out. My 3 yr old still enjoyed this, but i think he would have felt a lot more engaged if he had recognised the words from the book. I found myself not being able to enjoy the film as i just wanted to hear the words from the book. If you havent read the book then im sure you will enjoy this animation, but if like myself you know the words by heart then you may feel slightly let down.

I would like to mention first of all that this review is from a 21 year old male. The only reason I think that's important here is simply because it's a review for a "childrens film".

On Christmas eve 2008 I had the great fortune to stumble upon this animation whilst watching television. At first glance I thought it would be nothing more than a childrens film, but it's far more than that.

It's a simple story, that's true of this film, but what makes it so magnificent is that it manages to weave all these different layers of emotion into the film so subtlely, yet so effectively.

The animation is nothing short of beautiful, along with the musical score for the film. No detail has been missed in this animation, it's flawless in every aspect.

I'm a very critical movie fan, I expect a lot for a film to really please me, but this has to be up there in my all time favourite films.

I would recommend this film to anyone, and I mean anyone, but especially if you're looking at getting a film for your children! It's a poignant, heart warming story that will sit up high up in the best all time animations for a long, long time.

It may only be 30 minutes long, but don't miss your chance to purchase this DVD. You won't regret it!

100% perfection. A definate must have. One that everyone should see whether you are 9 like my son or 39 like me. The perfect characters for a absolutely brilliant story. The story of friendship and loss. Will pull on your heart strings.

Caught a review of this a while back in the times and it just seemed like something i would like to see.

On viewing (and repeat viewings) it just feels like perfection, the pictures, the narration, the animation and music all seemed to come together perfectly and just thinking about it makes me fill up. Full of little beutiful moments - the octopus, the pet shop and contents of the penguins suitcase... i could go on and on.

this deserves to become as much a classic as Toy story, Finding Nemo et al.

fantastic.
