This film is a very well crafted horror thriller, the story is clever and very original, the overall feeling of the movie throughout is very, very creepy. You wouldn't think that kids could be scary but in this case they are disturbing as hell! This film will have you gripped throughout if your really big into this kind of genre, the cast was fantastic especially the gorgeous Hannah Tointon who was quite a treat! This is a superb bit of movie making and deserves to be seen!
I wasn't expecting that much from this film, a low budget horror flick from a director I'd never heard of although I have seen some of his previous work without knowing it at the time.
It starts slowly & builds up the tension through the first half until the violence starts, I can honestly say I was shocked by this film a few times. That doesn't mean I'm a prude or wimp, I'm a big horror fan & have seen lots of the most gory films you can imagine but seeing small children dishing out pain, suffering & death had me open mouthed at times, the scenes on the climbing frame & out in the woods for example.
I think the reason why some people on here have given it a bad review is simple, they went into this expecting big budget special effects like a Saw film so when they get a character led story with no CGI & most of what happens left to your own imagination they feel a bit let down. That's not the fault of the film.
I've given the film 4 stars because there were a few small niggling problems & one scene was predictable in that I saw it coming 10 minutes before it happened, but other than that this is a cracking film that I would recommend to any horror fan.
The Children is an unsettling horror film by director Tom Shankland. A horror/christmas themed film that will save you from the big-budget rubbish that is currently being released into cinemas.
This film was absolutley amazing!! Admittedly, it was a little slow to start off with, but it gets moving soon enough. This film is particularly disturbing in its use of children, i won't spoil it for you, but the way they have been presented in this film will make you never want to go near a child ever again!!
Not one to watch with the kids though.
i thought this film was really good, it is a uniquie film and me and my partner both enjoyed it.
