Generation Kill is an authentic and vividly detailed 7-part HBO mini-series event that presents a uniquely epic and intimate portrait of the first 40 days of the Iraq war from the perspective of the Marines of the First Recon Battalion - a new breed of American soldiers. Created by The Wire's David Simon and Ed Burns, and based on Evan Wright's award-winning novel, in which he recounted his experiences as a reporter following the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion of the United States Marine Corps during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, Generation Kill is one of the most realistic war dramas ever made

The mini-series tells the story of these young Marines physical and emotional journey into the heart of Baghdad in those initial weeks, and how the war reveals to be much more complicated, problematic and tragic than anyone had contemplated. Many of the complications and problems that arise are due to the unwieldy military bureaucracy which the Marines confront in the midst of the war, the challenges of over-zealous and incompetent commanding officers, ever-changing rules of engagement, a non-existent strategy, severe deficiencies in necessary armor and supplies, and an enemy they don't understand.

Generation Kill is a humorous and frightening first hand account of these remarkable men, of the personal toll of victory, and of the brutality, camaraderie and bureaucracy of a new American war. It is a profoundly insightful and realistic look at the risk, costs and ultimately, the failures of the war.

Written and produced by Emmy-award winner David Simon (The Wire), and also produced by the award-winning George Faber (Elizabeth I).

What a mini-series! from the first episode I was hooked, it's some of the best TV I have seen in this decade. If you liked Band of Brothers, Black Hawk Down , Three Kings and Jarhead you have to see this. Generation Kill centres on the U.S's second invasion of Iraq, as the Marines find them selves stuggling with shoddy supplies, frustation with the contradicting chain of command and questioning their mission at every turn. This seven part series fuses the fury and camaradere in gritty, raw and brutally honest insiders look at modern war. This is a truly breath taking intelligent, gripping powerful and electrifying look at our world today, and the outcome is uncompmising. This is TV at it's best as this series is not limited with made for TV production values, It feels real, looks real and based on Evan Wrights best selling book is real. This is the most searingly intense Drama in years, and it urges to be seen.
Breathtaking Brilliance!

 A potential classic...

This seven part mini series is based on the book written by Rolling Stone journalist Evan Wright following his experiences when embedded with a batallion of Recon Marines during the second Iraqi war. Gen Kill is a contemporary dramatisation of life in the US Marines, it eludes to the emotional struggles that a lot of soldiers face in armed conflicts. Produced by David Simon, who gave us The Wire, and feating excellent performances by Alexander Skarsgård and James Ransone, if you liked Jarhead, you'll really appreciate this candid look at modern warfare in a US Marine batallion on the front line.

 Astounding!

If you've not read Evan Wright's book of the same name where have you been? Set during Operation Iraqi Freedom, it details the 1st Recon Marines experiences during the early stages of that conflict.

An excellent insight into what the men of the Marines Recon unit saw during their tour in Iraq. The series starts in Kuwait and follows the Marines until their mission climaxes in the tempestuous city of Baghdad. At times the material depicted makes for uneasy viewing, although it is not an outright condemnation of the war. The series makes superb light of the difficult situations faced by the men and women of the armed forces, not only in combat, but also at the hands of their superiors. What makes this series exceptional is the fact that some of the Recon Marines have elected to play themselves, adding more depth, realism and ultimately support to the story.

This is not Band of Brothers, those wishing for a more action packed and less cerebral series should check out Over There. For everyone else there is Generation Kill...see it!

 HBO Does it again!!

Yet again HBO has released another superb series. Generation Kill gives a true account of life in Iraq, with many of its stars being ex-marines who have served in Iraq. The show really gives you a feeling that your really there with its excellent choice of camera angles. This is one show you should see!! Buy it you won't regret it.
