Now I consider myself a bit of a film buff and certainly no fan of the titular JCVD's recent work (to be honest I haven't enjoyed any of his efforts since I was an impressionable teenager watching Timecop). This however is something completely different and in my view will be enjoyed by a varied audience - if it gets the recognition and therefore exposure it deserves.

This isn't really an action movie. It isn't a comedy. It isn't a drama and nor is it a biopic. It does however have aspects of each of these genres and succeeds in each respect. The lenghty "one take" action scene at the start harks back to Jean Claude's halcyon days and is expertly dealt with by the director. It has moments of (for me at least) genuine laugh out loud humour, and not just when the film is making fun at Van Damme's expense. There are dramatic scenes in which each of the supporting cast (none of whom you will recognise ) give real depth to proceedings. The highlight however is a 5 minute monologue delivered by Van Damme in his native tongue in the middle of the film - a superb performance by a man who hitherto I had no idea could act. I kid you not, you will think to yourself "wow" at the end of that - the man himself seems to be baring his soul to you personally.

I think it wil take some time to realise it for most but this is a genuinely good, if not great film and you owe it to yourself to give it a chance whatever you migh think of Van Damme. I guarantee you will be surprised and certainly not disappointed.

... That's how much i rate this film!

It's a great showcase of jcvd's talent as an actor and one of the many highlights is mid-way through the film - an emotional and bare monologue by the key player.

Peace u.k.

Van Damm acts Rourke out of the ring

This is a clever, whity, hard hitting and poignant film.

It's is an absolute travesty that JCVD has not got the true recognition that it deserves, with all the plaudits and aka laids going to Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler, which is a good film but JCVD is miles better, and Jean Claude acts Rourke out of the ring.

Yes it is a foriegn language film. Yes there are no big explosions (unlike the cover). Yes there are no JC fight scenes, of which he is famous for. But do not let this put you off.

This is a fantastic film, worthy of many awards, which it won't get. Jean Claude is simply superb, his mono-log is truely mesmerising. A must have for any Van Damm fan. A must have full stop.

 Absolutely loved it

I have always like Van Damme, even when he was in really terrible movies. So I might be a bit biased, but he always had something I enjoyed watching. This movie was brilliant. The humour in it is great. For those of you who don't like subtitles, you won't even notice them after 5 minutes. Hopefully this will be the start of intelligent well made Jean Claude movies.
