I watched this movie knowing very little about it but giving it the assumption that it was a modern day Dirty harry. How wrong was I?
What we have here is a beautiful film that follows a character named Walt Kowalski, A Retired auto worker and Korean War vet.
Walt is miserable old and racist and having recently lost his wife his only other love is his Gran Torino. But when the neighbour's young boy gets reluctantly involved with a local gang, things change for Walt and we start to see a man standing up in what he believes in as well as seeing Walt understanding his neighbours.
What started as a miserable old racist defending his own front lawn ends up with man changing the lives of those around him in such a profound way that come the end of the film you will be so glad that this wasn't a dirty harry remake.
Gran Torino is sharp, witty and moving; don't expect big guns or big action because you won't find it here,
What you will find is a film about an old man coming to terms with his own mortality and finding a way to forgive himself for his past actions, a Burdon that he carries through the entire film. 5*****

Enjoyable but not without it's flaws

To begin with, I will say that 'Gran Torino' is a very enjoyable film; one which I would recommend watching to any of my peers. However, it is not a 'great' film like some of the 'overly excitable' Play.com reviewers would have you believe.
Despite Eastwood putting in a superb performance, the same can not be said for his supporting cast. The Korean cast take away from what should've been an 8/10 film, with the lead supporting actor putting in a particularly weak and not very convincing characterisation.
Do not totally be put off by this inconsistency of performance, as the storyline is gripping and heartfelt. Give it a try and draw up your own analysis but don't be fooled by the recklessness with which Play.com users hand out 5 stars.

I thought this film was superb, you get so used to films that use blue screen , special effects, cgi, etc, that its refreshing so see a well shot ,well acted film with a great storyline.Clint Eastwood is excellent and the film really makes you think about many topics such as Age,Racism and society itself. A great film and a fitting end to Eastwoods acting career

 Amazingly adept movie

If you think this is anything less than 4 star you have to be a bit dull in the head. Pay no attention to these people they know nothing of what they talk about.

This movie is one of Eastwood's best. Maybe some of the acting isn't exactly top and if you don't appreciate the subtle indy style it can be help against it. Though this is thought provoking intriguing and well prepared. There are very good one liners, setups and little tid bits that put a smile on your face. Its an extremely clever and subtle movie.

Don't expect Dirty Harry this is not what this movie is about. If you want your action fest go watch T3 with the other zombies.

To me this movie was better than Changling and as such I gave it a 5 star. Up there with Unforgiven for me.

 Clint is back!

Very moving film and what is great is the classic one liners that Clint comes up with. It is like having Dirty Harry back. Clint did very well portraying a war hero who fought Koreans in the war, unfortunately for Clint a family of Koreans move in next door. A gang associated with the family next door meet their match when they mess with clint and cause problems for his new neighbours who want nothing to do with this gang.
Clint has still got it and is still the coolest man on the planet. Very enjoyable film.
