The year is 2700 and the Earth is polluted, barren and exhausted. Wall-E is the last of a group of clean-up robots, sent to restore the Earth by lifting and compressing the endless quantities of rubbish left behind by a human race that has withdrawn to the safety of space.

Wall-E spends every day doing what he was made for on the lonely, silent Earth. His only companion is his trusty pet cockroach, Spot. But soon, he will discover what he was meant for as he chases his dream across the galaxy.

Wall-e not, because you're in for a great ride

Just to remind you/inform you this is coming from a 17 year old lad, so at least you can see the age range doesn't just include the old and the young. Infact this film attracted my sister of 13 years and Dad going on 46, we just came in, sat down and expected something to drown out the next 1 hour and a half of boredom, and I came away wanting to watch it again.

Wall-e is one of those rare gems which occur with such unpredictable frequency, it suits no genre but it appeals to all interests and ages. The humor, love and intrigue, all perfectly match a great plotline, ensuring your eyes never leave your TV.

I'd recommend it for anyone, this is a great pick-me up and you're guarenteed a good laugh or four along the way.

 Another Pixar Classic

After the rather pedestrian Ratatouille, this is probably the most original Pixar story in terms of plot and execution.

It's very much a film of two halves; the first half a silent romantic comedy between two robots, the second a more conventional action piece with a battle between many robots.

One word of caution about this particular DVD package; the cardboard packaging is novel, but probably not too durable. Also, my discs had a strange discolouration and what looks like chips around the edges. They seem to play OK, although there is a noticeable couple of skips as the layer changes. Hopefully just a bad batch, not quite enough to warrant a return.

 Pixar at it's worst

Visually stunning, Pixars best animation yet! but that is where it ends. I loved The Incredible's, Toy Story and all of pixars work but after 30 min's I was clock watching due to the story being so boring. I could not believe I was bored watching a Pixar film, I just don't understand why so many people praise this film as nothing really happens the Wall-E character is just Johnny 5 from Short Circuit but smaller and more cute. It's like looking at the world from a child's eye and possibly what we would be like if technology did everything for us, but so what. Lastly I see on other reviews like my own, having a rather bias opinion voted against there review (as will I) but I think it is unfair to rate the review if your a fan of the film. I do not like it and others do not like it and are entitled to there opinion so please only vote if you find my opinion viable, thank you.

A wonderful film with more than enough extras

Wall-E is a rarity - A film which is funny, sad, touching and dramatic without ever having to resort to gratuitous means. It's a film which has such a limited amount of dialogue that it had force itself to use the methods of old silent movies to tell its story, and it does so masterfully. There's something to please evey member of the family in the film, from the heartwarming romantics, to children who want to be entertained. In short, this filmmaking at its most simple and very best.

The choice of putting the DVDs in a carboard case is interesting, and goes well with the seemingly eco-aware theme that the film promotes. Although a novelty, it's suprisingly more resilient than you would imagine.

On the DVDs themselves, the first disc contain the main feature as well as the animated short "Presto" that was shown before the film in cinemas. This in itself is worth it's own review, as it's a brilliantly crafted piece of entertainment that almost rivals Wall-E for quality. You also have a bonus short named "Burn-E", revolving around a robot that you see stuck outside in the main film, which although predictable, is another short which garners several laughs. There's also a commentary on the disc, which is quite insightful, and deleted scenes which show some of the alternative ways Wall-E could have played out.

Disc 2 however is alone worth buying this version. It's split into 2 sets named "Humans" and "Robots". Humans is for those interested in the making, whilst "Robots" is more to entertain the kids. The Robots section has a lot to entertain with many of the short promos used to promote the film, and a variety of interactive features to keep the kids entertained. However, it is the Human section which takes it. In addition to several making of feaurettes, there is "The Pixar Story", a detailed and fascinating look at Pixar's history which clocks in at an hour and a half. This documentary alone is probably the best part of the package.

So this 2-disc edition packs quite a punch. Not only will you owning one of the best films of all times, but you will own one of the most extensive DVD packages to dates.
