 ...at times masterfull

I grew up with tales of the hunger strikers and the 'troubles' in Northern Ireland. Steve McQueen captures these times beautifully. The acting is outstanding and at times breath taking. The scene with Sands and his Priest is masterful. No matter political views or religious stand-point, it is a MUST see.

 Film is Art

Hunger is not a mainstream film, it will not have you thrown around the screen in excitement nor will it have you screaming for narrative closure. Many mainstream audiences see it as boring, but this is only if you compare it Hollywood who spoon feed narrative at the expense of thought. Hunger is a film and an art piece, most of the action happens in your own mind. It allows you to think and compute the action. The long takes giving you extra time to comprehend what the sequence actually means. This is a film for the cinematic open minded.

Great film. Bravery of an MP? Not so sure. Honorary title maybe. Brave not so sure? Wanting to be a martyr at the expense of his young children growing up without a father. True.

When watching this film you can see that it has been made by an great artist in director Steve Mcqueen. The film tells the story of IRA terrorist Bobby Sands' final months of life in captivity in British prison 'The Maze'. There isn't actually that much to the film, however the cinematography and powerhouse performances are fantastic.

 Morality Aside - Outstanding

I watched this film and was utterly blown away by the raw, bluntness of the film. This is one of those films that evokes the emotions to their peak. I left the cinema with a new film to put in my top five favourites. However, I understand that this film is about a very delicate, sensitive subject, and as a teenager with no real knowledge of context, i fail to take the same stance as those offended by the "glorification" of Bobby Sands. This film is an absolute Masterpiece and I utterly recommend it to anyone, but if you have strong opinions about the IRA and Bobby Sands then you may leave the cinema feeling angry and disgusted.

Hard to watch but worth it

Just seen this on the big screen. Went with no preconceived ideas - just a vague memory of The Troubles in Ireland and the hungerstrikers. All I knew was the Government's take on the situation. This film exposed the prison system's reaction to the Dirty Protest in the Maze prison. I found the sheer inhumanity and brutality of the prison guards so distressing. The acting is phenomenal and the direction incredible. Memorable film.

This is the most emotional stories ever told.
The film is just incredible, the subject is undoubtedly bleak, but obviously vital to the telling of the story.
The acting is phenomenal, particularly by michael fassbender.
I saw the movie in an empty cinema and it had an indelible affect on me.
A must see.
